The eight-passenger Sequoia is longer and taller than the Chevrolet Tahoe and offers more rear cargo capacity than the Ford Expedition.

Equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and an electronic throttle control system with intelligence (ETCS-i), the Sequoia V8 produces 273 horsepower and 314 lb-ft. of peak torque. The five-speed automatic transmission provides smooth performance and outstanding flexibility. The Sequoia is EPA-certified as an ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV). Like all Toyota SUVs, the Sequoia comes standard with the benefits of the STAR SAFETY SYSTEM?, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control (TRAC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

The multi-mode 4WD system uses a lockable center differential and allows the driver to shift from 2H to 4H with a dash-mounted switch. Sequoia owners can configure the interior in a multitude of ways. The 60/40 split and 40/40 split second rows and 50/50 split third row seats fold, recline and tumble forward. The third row seats also slide and are removable. In its rear-most position, the third row provides a generous 29.8 inches of legroom. Moving the third row to its most forward position yields 36.2 cu.-ft. of space behind it.
The third row seat can be removed in halves, to provide 73.6 cu.-ft. of space behind the second row, while folding the second row yields 128.1 cu.-ft. of interior cargo space. The option includes a high-resolution seven-inch overhead LCD screen that flips down from the headliner, a DVD player location in the center console box and rear seat audio – a feature that is also available as a separate option.
