2006 Scion xA news, pictures, and information

We're all about giving you more and we don't see any reason not to just because it's a 'compact car.' How do we define compact car? Start here:

Power door locks, windows, and mirrors come in every xA. A Pioneer /MP3 player playback and a 6-speaker 160 watt maximum power Scion Sound Processing system also comes standard for those days when loud isn't loud enough. Tilt §teering, A/C, sport bucket seats and ABS brakes are also featured in every xA. And if you want to wax poetic on your own personal style, we've got over 30 accessories for you to choose from.

We think that the price alone - autos starting at $13,270 MSRP - proves that all these options don't have to cost extra in a car.

Performance

Your mission is to get from point A to point B - and maybe C. Simple enough, but you'll want some help. You may even want a car.

Look inside the xA and you'll find a 1.5 Liter 16 valve in-line 4-cylinder engine wîth Variable Valve Timing wîth Intelligence (VVT-I) technology. This light and compact power plant gives every xA an excellent horsepower-to-weight ratio.

We wouldn't call it an economical car if it weren't economical, either. Expect 32/37 mpg for xA manual, 31/38 mpg for automatic transmission - all without sacrificing high performance, low emission, and low noise levels.

Automatic transmissions utilize an advanced powertrain known as grade logic. This technology manipulates the shift logic of transmissions during uphill or downhill driving. By simply lifting the throttle while ascending hills, upshifts can be inhibited and the engine can remain in the peak torque band to maintain a smooth ride throughout. A similar logic applies during downhill driving to provide more engine braking by not upshifting needlessly.

Keeping you firmly planted on the road are MacPherson struts and a sport-tuned suspension wîth stiffened springs. Add an anti-roll bar and a precise §teering feel to round out your xA experience.

Safety

Economical, reliable, safe. The main component of its passive collision protection system consists of a supplemental restraint system that utilizes sensors in the front airbags to detect a frontal collision. An Antilock Braking System (ABS), front seat belt pre-tensioners and 3-point anchor seat belts for all five seats help to ensure that you and your passengers don't go anywhere you don't intend to.

The exterior panels of the xA make up the rigid body shell that doubles as an impact absorbing structure. The passenger compartment is designed wîth reinforced cross and side members that are laid out horizontally. This helps distribute crash impact forces to the vehicle's upper body and throughout the entire body structure.

Side curtain airbags for the front and rear seats are also available as an accessory to protect your upper torso and head from impact.
