Performance
More power - that's what you wanted from us. So we took that to our team of engineers and came back wîth a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC) 16-valve EFI wîth Variable Valve Timing wîth Intelligence (VVT-i) technology. This - plus a compression ration of 9.6:1 - produce 160 hp @ 5,700 rpm and a hefty 163 lb.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm.In addition to raw power, the tC also boasts low emissions, low noise levels, and an impressive fuel economy. Manual transmissions get 22 city / 29 highway miles, and automatics deliver 23 city / 30 highway.
Automatic transmissions utilize an advanced powertrain known as grade logic. This technology manipulates the shift logic of transmissions during uphill or downhill driving. By simply lifting the throttle while ascending hills, upshifts can be inhibited and the engine can remain in the peak torque band to maintain a smooth ride throughout. A similar logic applies during downhill driving to provide more engine braking by not upshifting needlessly.
To help deliver all that power to the ground, we used MacPherson struts. The tCs come equipped wîth an independent front strut and independent double wishbone rear mounts. All four corners sit on sport-tuned springs and are supported by stiff anti-roll bars for a tight and responsive driving experience.
Safety
Economical, reliable, safe. The main component of its passive collision protection system consists of a supplemental restraint system that utilizes sensors in the front airbags to detect a frontal collision. An Antilock Braking System (ABS), front seat belt pre-tensioners and 3-point anchor seat belts for all five seats help to ensure that you and your passengers don't go anywhere you don't intend to.
The exterior panels of the tC make up the rigid body shell that doubles as an impact absorbing structure. The passenger compartment is designed wîth reinforced cross and side members that are laid out horizontally. This helps distribute crash impact forces to the vehicle's upper body and throughout the entire body structure.
Side curtain airbags for the front and rear seats are also available to protect your upper torso and head from impact. (This item cannot be combined wîth Auto-Dimming Mirror accessory)Source - Scion
