1988 BMW M5

BMW introduced a new version of their 5-Series Sedan in 1988 which they called the M5. It was powered by the same dual overhead-cam six-cylinder engine found in the M6. The engine produced 256 horsepower and was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. They had a limited slip differential, large air dam in the front and fog lamps. They had a decklid spoiler, leather seats and door panels, blackout body trim, 225/50VR16 tires, and ten-way power sport seats.

The European versions of the sport/luxury vehicle had 315 horsepower. In the United States, the 535i sold for $36,000. The iS version raised that figure an additional $900. The M5 surpassed that figure even further, selling for $46,500.
