Mercedes-Benz introduced a new generation roadster SLK Class in 1997. They were designated the R170 platform, with its acronym meaning Sportlich, Leicht, Kurz (sporty, light and compact). The SLK Class was designed to compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3. The SLK Class had a retractable hard top, which preceded those of Peugeot, Lexus, Pontiac and Chrysler.

For 2005, the SLK was given new bodywork and more power. Designated R171, it was offered with 179cc supercharged four and V-6s of 2996 and 3498cc, both were naturally aspirated. Both automatic and manual transmissions received an additional speed, to seven and six, respectively.

This 2006 SLK350 has fewer than 25,000 miles. It is equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission and a 3498cc dual-overhead cam V6 engine offering 268 horsepower. There are aftermarket three-piece Brabus wheels and four-wheel anti-lock power disc brakes.

In 2011, the car was offered for sale at RM Auctions' Arizona sale where it was estimated to sell for $20,000 - $25,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $24,750 including buyer's premium.
