Something about the S2000 says this is no ordinary roadster. Maybe it's the 2.2-liter, 237-horsepower, 16-valve, DOHC, VTEC® engine, anti-lock braking system (ABS), new 17-inch alloy wheels, Drive-by-Wire Throttle System™, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) with traction control and the upgraded AM/FM/XM Ready®†CD audio system with 8 speakers, including 4 integrated roll bar speakers. Then again, every S2000 features leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, an Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System, a remote-entry system, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, Daytime Running Lights, combination LED taillights, 6-speed manual transmission, maintenance minder system, electrically powered soft top with a glass rear window and defroster and an engine start button to begin your journey.
It's also amazingly lightweight and compact thanks to exact engineering and advanced materials. The result is a high-revving powerplant, making an impressive 237 hp at 7800 RPM's and 162 lb.-ft. of torque at 6800 RPM's. Take those forceful figures, factor in performance-oriented gearing, and the S2000 driver is treated to driving exhilaration without comparison. Now specs alone can't fully portray on-the-pavement fun. But the numbers just don't lie—and they can even be poetry in motion.
The body of the S2000 has an extremely rigid high X-bone monocoque frame that is designed to protect you in case of impact and to distribute loads evenly. The body structure is designed to provide optimal passenger protection of a closed-top vehicle. Head-injury protection is built into the interior, and side-impact protection is built into the doors, door pads, side sills and floor of the cockpit.
Every S2000 comes equipped with essential safety features, such as 3-point seat belts with pretensioners, dual front airbags (SRS), side-impact door beams and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). Power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) with traction control add a further measure of control and stopping power to the S2000. And for 2006, Daytime Running Lights (DRL) have been added to increase visibility while on the road.
The S2000 exists today thanks to our long and distinguished involvement with racing. We've collected more than 70 Grand Prix victories in Formula One racing and 65 wins in CART open-wheel racing. And in just our second season of Indy Racing League® competition, we won 14 of 16 races, plus the Manufacturers' Championship, Drivers' Championship and Rookie of the Year. Competition makes our engineers better able to create smart, innovative designs for our production vehicles. There's no more perfect expression of our pioneering spirit and our burning desire to win than the revolutionary S2000.
The S2000 epitomizes our racing heritage. Its DNA is that of a pure thoroughbred racer, with a lineage like a road map of Honda engineering milestones. In fact, many of the technological achievements you'll find in the S2000 were created in the Honda Performance Development Center, the technical operations center for our IndyCar® program. So hop in and take a trip around your neighborhood—you'll hear those Formula One genes loud and clear.Source - Honda
