1996 Ghia Lynx news, pictures, and information
Assembled at Ford Motor Company Philippines Inc.'s P4-billion plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna, the Ford Lynx Ghia is the epitome of elegance with features that are unmatched by any other car in its class. Basic features are included, along with leather seats, power moonroof, a 6-disc CD in-dash stereo system along with many other features that puts the Ford Lynx Ghia a step ahead of the others.
On September 17, 1999, the Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc in Manila, Philippines, joined the competitive passenger car segment with its introduction of the all-new Ford Lynx. Considered to be the best-in-class combination of quality, styling, safety and much, the Lynx embodies Ford's vision to optimize customer satisfaction. With over 100 years of providing innovative products, the Ford Lynx bore the auspicious duty of carrying Ford's reputation with its all new edge styling, class leading interior space, plush ride and excellent steering and handling.
Available in two model variants, the four door sedan was featured as the Ford Lynx GSi and the Ghia. Both variants were powered by the all new 1.6 liter ZMD DOHC 4-cylinder, 16-valve gasoline engine with Electronic Fuel Injection system. Both models also came in either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-spped electronic automatic transmission that featured slope control for excellent shift quality.
The Lynx Ghia is available only at authorized Ford dealerships, Ford Balintawak, Ford Makati, Ford Edsa, Ford Ortigas and Ford Pampanga. Featured on the Ghia Lynx were customer convenience features such as power windows, mirrors, door locks, adjustable tilt steering, center console, Ford first aid kit and several other storage areas. Other features included standard fog lamps, color-keyed power fold-in system, driver and front passenger SRS airbags, anti-lock brake systems, leather trims and 15' platinum effect alloy wheels. Also featured with the Ford Ghia Lynx is a 2-year/50,000 km. warranty.
Fords with the Ghia badge featured more luxurious interiors with plush upholstery and even wood trim. Ghia versions were last found in Malaysia on the previous Lynx generation before disappearing. In other countries such version still continued, most notably in Europe, but new marketing directions in Malaysia did not include Ghia trim levels for the past few years.
The prestigious badge returned with the new Lynx Ghia, available with 4-speed electronic automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions. The Lynx Ghia is equipped with a proven 79.4 kW/108 ps 1.6 liter DOHC 16-valve engine with sequential electronic fuel injection. The Ghia's automatic transmission's shift program has Direct Electronic Shift Control which minimizes searching for a suitable gear while the vehicle is being driven up or down a slope.
The Lynx Ghia is fully equipped to a high level that comes with all-new velour fabric seats and a classy two-tone interior along wit a subtly modified center console to increase driver comfort and convenience. Additional ducting under the front seats brought air to the rear passengers like the Laser, the predecessor to the Lynx. Newly redesigned, the front passenger's seat now folded flat and could be utilized as a table.
The Lynx Ghia also featured 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS and EBD as standard equipment, along with front drive and passenger side SRS airbags as well. To set it apart from the XL, LS and SV versions, the Lynx Ghia is available in three new colors, Dark Nautic Blue, Savana Green and Winter White.
The top version of the Lynx range, the Lynx Ghia, though not the most expensive model, carries the prestigious badge of the Italian studio which has been part of Ford since the 1970's. A Ford model that carries the badge is typically the flagship version with the highest level of equipment.Jessica Donaldson
