1996 Ford Synergy 2010 news, pictures, and information
The Ford Synergy 2010 was a very bold and forward-looking concept with family transportation in mind. Power was from a hybrid power system that displaced 1.0-liter and a direct-injection system. The engine was adequate to carry the lightweight vehicle formed from exotic and lightweight materials. Its design was aerodynamic.
The car was fitted with futuristic features such as voice-activated controls and computer animation.

FORD CONCEPT VEHICLES DEMONSTRATE VERSATILE TECHNOLOGIES OF TOMORROW
Ford Motor Company's vision for the future of transportation includes breakthrough powertrain technologies and multi-activity vehicles. The (my) Mercury
Designed with maximum versatility combined with style, the new (my) mercury concept demonstrates one vision for a multi-activity vehicle that blurs the boundaries between a car, a truck and a sports utility vehicle. The five-door, five-passenger (my) is designed as a 'go anywhere, do anything' vehicle. It is ready for any adventure, from mountain climbing to snow boarding, but is also just as at home at the theater or nightclub.
(my) builds on the design direction already established for Mercury by other recent concept and production vehicles -- such as the MC2 and MC4 concepts and the highly successful Mercury Cougar. (my)'s silhouette is formed with an arching roof and hard-edged rear hatch line, accented by precise, flared wheel houses to create a bold, solid, grounded stance and a distinctly Mercury style. Amber-tinted glass gives a warm feel to an otherwise technical, highly machined look.
The five-door configuration makes the (my) extremely versatile. The front doors open in a conventional manner, while the rear doors open to the back, giving complete access to the interior. The top of the rear hatch opens upward, and the rear bucket seats fold down-- increasing usable cargo space. Coupled with the extended portion of the rear hatch, (my) has over 6 feet in the rear to haul necessary adventure gear.
The Ford Synergy 2010
Displaying a range of breakthrough technologies, the Synergy 2010 demonstrates some of ways Ford envisions propelling vehicles in the future. Built as four-tenths scale model, the Synergy 2010 allows three separate and distinct powertrain mock-ups-internal combustion engine hybrid electric, gas turbine hybrid electric, and fuel cell hybrid electric--to be rotated into place under a shell of the vehicles. The generation and flow of power in the powertrain system is indicated by computer-controlled lighting.
Ford is currently working with Chrysler, General Motors, the U.S. government, and domestic suppliers in the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) program to accelerate the development of the technologies reflected in the Synergy 2010, such as energy conversion, energy storage, power conditioning and mass reduction.
The Synergy 2010 project also illustrates other technologies that help lead to a quantum improvement in fuel economy. At a projected 2,200 pounds, the Synergy 2010 weighs about 1,100 pounds less than a mid-size sedan today. Pounds are trimmed through the use of advanced materials and increased use of computerized design techniques. The lightness of the body and chassis are crucial to the small size of the components reflected in the three alternative powertrains shown.Source - Ford
