1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce news, pictures, and information

Coupe

The 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV European model is very rare in the US. This very car was delivered to the original owner at the Alfa Romeo factory in 1969. It was then taken to the Panama Canal Zone. The car was purchased by the current owner in October of 1998.

The car is mostly original, although it has been re-painted in original color. It still has its original engine, Weber carburetors, transmission, interior and carpets.

The car is one of 26,232 produced with the 1779 cc twin-overhead cam all-alloy, four-cylinder Hemi-head engine. It is fed by twin side-draft Weber carburetors coupled to a five-speed transmission. It produces 132 horsepower and is capable of 118 MPH. The car was sold new for $4,431 in 1969.

Sold for $44,000 at 2008 Gooding & Company.
This 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce was completed by the factory on June 10th of 1969. Upon completion it was sent to the United States and to its first owner, living in San Francisco. Many years later, in 2005, the car was purchased by Bob Cozza and Richard Stephens - and Alfa restoration team - from the estate of the original owner. They performed a complete nut-and-bolt restoration on this well maintained, rust free example. At the time, the car had only 66,000 miles on the odometer. The car is currently painted in metallic gray and the seats have been re-trimmed in burgundy.

The most current owner commissioned a full rebuild in early 2008. The four-cylinder Aluminum DOHC engine is fitted with SPICA mechanical fuel injection and capable of producing 140 horsepower. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes.

In 2008, this 1750 GT Veloce was offered for sale at the Gooding & Company auction held in Pebble Beach, California and was estimated to sell for $35,000 - $45,000, and offered without reserve. As the gavel fell for the third and final time, the lot had been sold for the sum of $44,000, including buyer's premium.

The Alfa Romeo 1750 was introduced in 1967 and offered in a variety of body styles and designs. The 1750 Berlina sedan and 1750 GTV coupes were introduced in 1967 which carried designs by Bertone. Inspiration came from the Giulia cars which used the body shell but had changes to the trim. The coupe version sat on a shorter wheelbase. In 1968 a spider version was introduced. Production continued until 1972 when the 1750 series was replaced by the 2000 series. In total over 100,000 examples were produced during this time.

Power was courtesy of a 1779 cc twin-car four-cylinder engine which produced about 130 horsepower and 140 foot-pounds of torque. The five-speed manual gearbox was all-synchromesh with a hydraulic clutch.
