At the 31st Tokyo Motor Show and the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the Mitsubishi Gaus Concept in 1995. The Gaus concept was also introduced at the 8th North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 1996.
The Gaus concept featured a two-liter, sixteen valve engine that was powered by semi-automatic transmission to all four wheels.
This concept vehicle was designed with all-over comfort and enlarged interior space. A modern SUV, the Gaus was built with access through horizontally split doors that involved the upper half folding upwards towards the roof, while the lower half folded downwards to become a step for easier access.
The interior seats could also be rotated inwards so that all passengers could face each other in a ‘living room configuration'. The seats in the rear could be taken out completely to make even more space.By Jessica Donaldson
