'Garish and Decadent' is what one auto writer called the 1958 Cadillac's, which commemorated GM's 50th Anniversary year. In their hearts, however, many Americans secretly last for such indulgent products in the age of excess with lots of size and weight, plenty of chrome and glitz, power and gas to burn.
The Biarritzes had 10 vertical chevron slashes instead of five horizontal 'Windsplits' in front of the rear wheel openings, and sculptured 'beauty panels' in place of the rear chrome moldings. The 1958 Cadillac V8 engine at 365 cubic-inch, gained 10 horses up to 310 hp. The Eldorado engine, optimal for other Cadillac's, reached 355 hp with three-two barrel carburetors.
Convertible production consisted of 7825 standard one and 815 Eldorado Biarritzes. This car is one of those 815, equipped with every factory option, including rare fully functioning air ride suspension. As apparent, the car underwent a full body off restoration in 2005.

This Series 62 Hardtop Coupe is finished in black with a matching interior. It was acquired by the current owner in late-2007 and now shows just over 39,000 miles, which are believed to be original. There are correct bright trim components, and the black upholstery and carpeting are offset by a white steering wheel and black-and-white dashboard. The car is equipped with power brakes and power steering, and an optional radio and rides on a set of whitewall tires.
In 2012, the car was offered for sale at the St. Johns sale presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $45,000 to $55,000. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $45,100 inclusive of buyer's premium.

The Harley Earl designed Cadillac Series 62 De Ville was a very large vehicle that featured a large, 6,390 cc (390 cubic inch) V-8 engine. The back had large fins that did little for performance and handling but was all about the style of the vehicle. The design of the vehicle was inspired by the space program and the era of jet engines. The large, 4400 lb car was fitted with drum brakes. These often wore out quickly. If a U-turn needed to be made, the driver would need a parking lot. The turning radius was 24 feet.
The car was a luxury vehicle that could carry six individuals comfortably. The car was a convertible with the top being raised and lowered automatically. The interior had electrical gauges. The head lights would turn on at dusk and were also capable of switching from high beam to low beam when they sensed oncoming traffic. In total, there were eight lights on the front of the vehicle. The four on the top were the driving lights while the lights mounted on the bumper were the parking lamps. To add to the driving comfort, air suspension was used. This aided in providing a very soft ride but there was significant body roll when cornering. With the V8, it was capable of creeping to sixty in 11 seconds. This reinforced the notion that this Cadillac was built for comfort and not for speed. The drivers enjoyed the ride and they looked good cruising along, enjoying the large open road.
