Excaliburs were the proud product of the mind of Brooks Stevens. Stevens, an industrial designer, wanted to create an affordable American sports car. His first design, the Excalibur J, was a two-seat sports car, built on a Henry J chassis, using a modified Willys F-head motor. Three examples were built and raced in 1952. In 1961, Stevens designed and built the Excalibur Hawk Coupe. Based on a Studebaker Hawk chassis, but using a Corvette engine and custom aluminum coachwork. The spyder version was never built.
Fast forward to the early 90s; Steven's friend, Bob Shaw, convinces Stevens to give him the drawings and original model so he can build the open version. The chassis is designed and built by Chuck Rahn. Dave Draper and Time Machines Unlimited are employed to build the body and complete the car. The original design has been updated and incorporates details from the owner's favorite sports cars. This is the first public display of the car (Amelia Island Concours), and proof that great designs truly are timeless.
