ORENZO TREFETHEN TAKES FIRST PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE GT CUP WIN AT CTMP; BALDWIN EARNS FIRST GTS VICTORY OF 2015

Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, May 17, 2015. It was a weekend of firsts for Porsche customer teams at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP), May 16-17, in Bowmanville, Ontario. Pirelli World Challenge rookie Lorenzo Trefethen (Napa, California) earned his first GT Cup class victory in the No. 13 ANSA Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup car in Sunday's multiclass race. Earlier in the day, veteran Jack Baldwin (Marietta, Georgia) put the No. 73 GTSport Porsche Cayman S on the top step of the GTS class podium for the first time in 2015.

Porsche 911 GT3 R

With its successor being revealed at the Nürburgring 24 Hour race in Germany on Friday, the current Porsche 911 GT3 R hit the track in Canada in the hands of EFFORT Racing's Ryan Dalziel (Scotland) and Michael Lewis (Laguna Beach, California). In Saturday's 50-minute race, Lewis moved from his ninth-place starting spot to eighth at the checkered flag in the No. 41 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R. The rookie, who was elevated from GT Amateur (GTA) to GT class after winning four GTA class races early in the season, was 4.1-seconds behind race-winner Johnny O' Connell in the No. 3 Cadillac ATS-VR GT3. Teammate Dalziel trailed just behind Lewis in the first race finishing 13th. Sunday's race on the 2.459-mile, 10-turn natural terrain road course north of Toronto proved similar for the EFFORT Racing team. With the grid set based on fastest race lap in Round Eight, Dalziel would jump from 13th to finish in ninth-place while Lewis started 10th and was 12th crossing the line. Again, the pair trailed the Cadillac of O'Connell.

Ryan Dalziel, No. 31 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R: 'Very tough weekend for the team. We had a pretty good balance in the car but not the speed or the grip. We had a tenth-place car with a first-place team. We'll regroup and go to the next one.'

Michael Lewis, No. 41 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R: 'It was a pretty eventful race. Our cars were pretty solid. EFFORT Racing gave us a really good Porsche. It wasn't enough for the win but we were trying really hard out there.'

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

As a one-make class, the GT Cup by MOMO category is an intramural battle of equals. Colin Thompson (Doylestown, Pennsylvania) captured his seventh victory in eight races on Saturday is strong style. The class point leader continued in the same fashion at the beginning of Sunday's race staying just ahead of fellow Porsche Young Driver Academy alumni Sloan Urry (Salt Lake City, Utah) until near the race's midpoint. Urry attempted to pass Thompson entering the track's final turn, when the two made contact and spun. Thompson immediately returned and held the top-spot just ahead of Phil Fogg, Jr. (Portland, Oregon) and Trefethen. However, the pair continued to hound the orange No. 14 of Thompson eventually passing it within ten minutes of the checkered flag. Fogg, driving the No. 18 Zoro/TruSpeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup looked a certain lock for victory until taking the car off track entering Turn Eight. Trefethen coolly took over the lead and held it for the last two corners to take his first career World Challenge race win ahead of Thompson, who maintained the point lead, and Fogg.

Lorenzo Trefethen, No. 13 ANSA Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: 'To finish first you must first finish. This is a real thrill. This is my first time up here north of the border at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. I have to really thank the guys for giving me a really predictable car. I was able to stay right there and take advantage of everything that was happening in front of me. I just kind of backed off, stayed there, kept it clean and was able to bring it home. I want to dedicate this win to my good friend, Dan Fredinburg. Dan died climbing Mt. Everest the day of the terrible Nepal earthquake. I know he'd be proud of what was accomplished here today.'

Porsche Cayman S

After a frustrating opening part of the season, multi-time sports car champion Jack Baldwin placed his No. 73 GTSport Porsche Cayman S on the GTS class podium, third, on Saturday. He followed that with a stunning start and hard drive to capture the team's first victory of the season in Sunday's Round Eight. Gridding third for the standing start on Sunday, Baldwin split the front row to lead the field into Turn One. Despite ongoing pressure, Baldwin only lost the lead once and then only for two turns. The record will show him on point for the entire 50-minute, one-class race for smaller displacement, road-based racecars. Teammate Buz McCall (Boca Raton, Florida) finished 12th and 16th on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in the No. 72 GTSport Racing Porsche Cayman S.

Jack Baldwin, No. 73 GTSport Racing, Porsche Cayman S: 'Our Porsche Cayman S really performed well this entire weekend. I have to give a lot of credit to my GTSport Racing crew, we hit the setup dead on and we got the kind of results we were looking for. In Round Seven, the car was good but in Round Eight the car was even better. We got the best start we have probably ever gotten in Pirelli World Challenge and when I was out front I drove as hard as I could. It was great to win another race for Porsche and GTSport Racing.'

The next race weekend will see the Pirelli World Challenge joining the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship on the temporary street course in Detroit, Michigan on Belle Isle. The race, which will focus on the GT class only, will host Rounds 10 and 11 on May 30-31.
