1982 March 82C news, pictures, and information
In 1982 Cleveland hosted a racing event that included such prominent names as Mario Andretti, Tom Sneva, Jonny Rutherford, Rick Mears, Al Unser, Sr., A.J. Foyt, and Gordon Johncock. The race was the Budweiser-Cleveland 500 held at Burke Lakefront Airport on the 4th of July weekend.
The March 82C was rookie Bobby Rahal's racer which he drove to a victory after averaging over 100 mph and marked his first CART victory. The March 82C was owned by Dick Leppla of Cleveland and sponsored by Red Roof Inns, Crane and Shovel Sales Corp., and Jim Trueman's Truesport Racing Team.
Bobby Rahal completed the season in high fashion, capturing the 'Rookie of the Year' honors after two overall victories and a second place overall for the entire season.
