There were only two Ferrari 412P cars produced, and they wore chassis 0850 and 0848. The 412 P cars were similar to the 330 P3 race car but intended for independent teams such as Scuderia Filipinetti. When Ferrari sold these to their customers they removed the Lucas Mechanical Fuel Injection and replaced it with Weber carburetors. This reduced the overall horsepower output and kept the factory cars more competitive in an effort to capture more points. The factory cars at this time was a P3 with chassis 0846 and three P4's with chassis 0856, 0858, and 0860.
Due to the size of the engines (4-liter) and the limited number of vehicles produced, the 412 P racers were not eligible for races such as Le Mans. Homologation requirements stated that 25 identical cars were needed in order to qualify for racing. Due to the low numbers of P412 produced, the cars qualified for 'Prototype' classes but the 3-liter requirement in 1968 meant the cars would still be sidelined. © 1998-2009. All rights reserved.
