2005 Doran JE4 Grand Am Daytona Prototype

Doran Racing is pleased to announce that the Kodak EasyShare System will sponsor its DORAN JE4 Ford in the 2006 Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal.

The Lebanon, Ohio-based team is also pleased to announce that its two primary drivers for 2006 will be the driver with the most Rolex Series class victories in history, 2003 Daytona Prototype champion Terry Borcheller, and promising rookie Harrison Brix.

The car will be called the Feeds the Need/Doran Racing Kodak EasyShare DORAN JE4 Ford and it will carry the number 77. SIRIÚS Satellite Radio will be one of the entry's associate sponsors.

2005 Doran JE4 Grand Am Daytona PrototypeFeeds the Need Racing's Forest Barber will join Borcheller and Brix behind the wheel for the series' three longest races of the year, including the prestigious 44th annual Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla. Jan. 26-29.

Kevin Doran, the president of Doran Enterprises, also said that the entry's fourth driver for this year's Rolex 24 will be Michel Jourdain Jr., who is most famous for his many accomplishments in the Champ Car World Series.

Doran Enterprises has been an important part of the Grand American Rolex Series since the series' inception. It not only fields one or more cars in its events, but it is also a car constructor through its Doran Designs division, the manufacturer of the DORAN JE4 Daytona Prototype. Borcheller and Barber, along with Christian Fittipaldi and Andy Pilgrim, were in a Kodak-sponsored DORAN JE4 when they won the 2004 Rolex 24 at Daytona. Borcheller won the 2003 Daytona Prototype championship in the same DORAN JE4, one of six professional championships he has earned so far in his racing career.

'The success of the Rolex Series has made the competition tougher than it's ever been,' noted team owner/manager Kevin Doran, who has been victorious in six different Rolex 24s personally in a variety of roles: twice as a crew chief (1986 and 1987); once as a team member (1989); twice as a team manager (1998
and 2002); twice as a car owner (1998 and 2002) and once as a car manufacturer (2004).

'We're constantly developing the DORAN JE4, and I'm confident that we have a strong package,' Doran §äid. 'We're happy to be working with Robert Yates and Ford, and we're pleased to have Kodak and SIRIÚS on board.

'Everyone knows Terry's accomplishments,' Doran added. 'Harrison will learn from him. Forest will help us in many different ways. We're glad that Michel is doing his first Rolex 24 with us. He'll generate even more interest in our team.'

'It's always good when you're involved with a car manufacturer,' noted Borcheller, 39, of Gainesville, Ga. 'That's a big attraction for me. Nobody wants to win more than a manufacturer; his investment is at stake.

'This keeps my involvement consistent with the DORAN JE4, as well as with Kodak; Forest; my personal sponsors, K & N Filters and the Bondurant School; and the series and the fans,' Borcheller added.

'I'm extremely excited about working with Kevin Doran, Terry Borcheller and Forest Barber this year, and also Michel Jourdain at the Rolex 24,' said Brix, 25, of San Jose, Calif., the 2003-2004 Skip Barber Western Series champion and Rookie of the Year. 'I'm really looking forward to having Terry as my mentor in my first full season in the Rolex Series.'

'I am looking forward to what promises to be the most competitive season yet in the GARRA Daytona Prototype class,' said Barber, 53, of Fort Worth, Texas, who plans to drive the car at the Rolex 24; the Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y. June 2-3; and at the nine-hour season finale at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Útah Aug. 31-Sept. 2.

'I am also looking forward to racing with Terry in the Grand-Am Cup GS class Ford Mustang No. 2 run by Blackforest Motorsports this season,' Barber added. 'It should be a fun and challenging year!'

'Competing in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona is a huge dream come true in my life and career,' said Jourdain, 29, of Mexico City, Mexico. 'My dad and my uncle raced there many times, so I always grew up wanting to do it really bad.

2005 Doran JE4 Grand Am Daytona Prototype'As for doing it with Doran Racing, I can't think of a better environment to do my first 24 hours of Daytona,' he added. 'Kevin has so much experience, and I'm sure he will guide me through everything I need to do and not do.'

'I think we have a good chance,' he continued. 'The car is fast and reliable, so as long as we stay on the track with no big problems we should be looking good to have a great result.'

Doran Racing, which is based in the Cincinnati suburb of Lebanon, Ohio, will participate in testing at Daytona this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Doran Designs, another company under the Doran Enterprises umbrella, designs and builds high-performance parts and complete race cars. It also restores vintage race cars.

Doran Designs was officially formed in the summer of 2002. Kevin Doran and his staff had been building race cars for many years before that, however, following in the footsteps of Kevin's father, Jim, who designed and built short track late models. As a sign of respect to his late father, Kevin Doran continues to use his father's first two initials (JE stands for James Edward), as the model names of the cars that Doran Designs creates.

DORAN JE1s are SCCA Sports 2000 cars still under production, as are parts for them. The DORAN JE2 and JE3 are single Nissans (a 300ZX and a 240) created for SCCA GT1 and GT3 competition.

2005 Doran JE4 Grand Am Daytona PrototypeWhen the Grand American Rolex Series announced its new Daytona Prototype class, Doran Designs responded with the DORAN JE4, one of the first and most successful cars in that class. Únveiled at the 2003 season opener, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, a DORAN JE4 campaigned by Bell Motorsports (Terry Borcheller, lead driver) went on to win both the team and the driver championships in the Grand-Am Rolex Series that year. The marque finished third in the car constructors' standings in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and fourth in 2007. At that point Doran Enterprises sold its Daytona Prototype constructor's license to Dallara in order to work with that company to develop and field its brand-new Dallara Daytona Prototype.
