1975 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight

The 1975 Oldsmobile Delta Eight-Eight was offered in two series - the Eight-Eight and the Eight-Eight Royale. General Motors had restyled and enlarged all of its B-body full-size cars in 1971, and those updates and basic styling would continue through 1976. The 124-inch wheelbase was the same dimension as the previous platform but its length would grow to 226.9-inches by 1974, much longer than the 219.1-inches that the 1970 Olds 88 occupied, with front and rear 5 mph mandatory bumpers attributed to this length.

The 1975 Eight-Eight was available as a coupe, 4-door hardtop sedan, or 4-door town sedan. Pricing began at $4,785 for the town sedan and rose to $4,900 for the hardtop sedan. The town sedan had 16,112 sales, the hardtop sedan had 9,283, and the coupe had 8,522. These cars came standard with power brakes with discs in the front, a 350 cubic-inch engine, a High-Energy ignition system, an inside hood release, a dome lamp, a cigarette lighter, a lamp package, molding package, power steering, and Turbo-Hydramatic transmission.

The Eighty-Eight Royale included all the body styles found in the Eighty-Eight plus a convertible - the only convertible in the lineup. This was the final year for the Oldsmobile convertible, and sales literally went through the roof, as buyers were aware of the model's impending demise and counting on a future collectible, snapped up 7,181 examples versus just 3,716 in 1974.

The Delta Eight-Eight Royale coupe was priced at $5,000, the town sedan at $4,930, the hardtop sedan at $5,065, and the convertible at $5,215. The hardtop sedan was the most popular with 32,481 examples built, followed by 23,465 of the coupe and 21,038 of the town sedan.
