In 2000 Suzuki introduced a new concept four-wheel drive vehicle, the XL6. It was based on the Suzuki Vitara, including being fitted with a 2.5-liter V6 engine and two-speed transfer case and ladder chassis. The main differences were in the body length. The XL6 was much longer and lower than prior Suzuki four-wheel drive vehicles. There were three rows of seating, with accommodations for six. All with three-point lap-sash seat belts. The all-alloy wheels measured 18-inches and rode on low-profile tires.
