1964 Jaguar 3.8 MKII news, pictures, and information

Sedan
Chassis Num: P223410BW

Sold for $69,300 at 2008 Worldwide Auctioneers.
The MKII was based on the MKI, though it brought with it many improvements both mechanically and aesthetically. It was lighter, the interior was completely redesigned, the luxury and elegance was enhanced with leather and wood veneer. Leather seats were standard until 1967 at which time they became optional to reduce the cost of the vehicle.

There were three engine sizes available inducing the new 3.8-liter version of the XK which offered 220 horsepower giving it a greater top speed than virtually any other four-seater sedan in production.

This Jaguar 3.8 MKII Sedan has been given over $200,000 in restoration and upgrades. It now houses a 4.2-liter Jaguar six-cylinder DOHC engine with fuel injection and a modern GM Turbo 700 automatic transmission with overdrive. The upgrades continued through the brakes and suspension as well as several other components.

In 2008, this Jaguar 3.8 MKII was offered for sale at the Hilton Head Sports & Classic Car Auction presented by Worldwide Auctioneers. It had an estimated value of $50,000 - $60,000. As the gavel fell for the third and final time, bidding had reached $69,300 including buyer's premium and the lot was sold.

The Jaguar Mark II was introduced in October 1959 and continued in production until 1967. The MKII was built as a replacement for the 2.4 and 3.4 liter saloon, also known as the MKI.
The MK II was based on the MKI, but the result was different in many ways, both aesthetically and mechanically. Improvements to the design and modern materials resulted in a reduced overall weight. The interior was completely redesigned but retained its luxury and elegance with such amenities as leather and wood veneer. The attention to detail both inside and out, only amplified the ambiance of sophistication. Leather seats continued to be standard until 1967 when Jaguar offered it as optional in an effort to reduce the cost of the vehicle.

Under the hood was an XK engine, the same that had won at LeMans in 1951 and 1953. The XK engine was now enlarged to 3.8 liters producing around 220 horsepower. The engine continued to prove itself as a reliable and capable power plant.
