In a process of continuous refinement, Volvo has made a number of important changes to the S60 for 2007. 'We're making the S60 even sportier in every respect,' says Gerry Keaney, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service.' 'We've both spiced up the design and fine-tuned the chassis to create a car with even greater driving appeal.'
A new grille and front bumper lead the way in the Renaissance of changes to Volvo's sportiest sedan. The available front spoiler has been redesigned for better aerodynamics and a more aggressive appearance. On optional variants, the front spoiler, side sills and rear lower bumper are color coordinated for a more integrated appearance. A rear wing spoiler is another new option.
Redesigned outside mirrors include integrated turn signals. For added convenience, these automatically flash three times with light pressure on the turn signal stalk. Active Bi-Xenon headlights are a new stand-alone option. A mini-processor gathers data to optimize the beam pattern. The headlight beams can be turned up to 15 degrees in either direction. Rounding out the exterior changes are new colors and aluminum alloy wheels.
In order to highlight the S60's sporty driving character, the standard chassis has been further developed in a number of areas. Firmer front and rear shock absorbers and springs increase torsional rigidity by about 25 percent. Anti-roll bars are sturdier and supported by solid bushings. These changes work together to promote a harmonious balance between reassuring road manners and supple ride comfort.
On the inside, the T5 gains the same type of sporty watch-dial instrument cluster introduced on the new Volvo S80. This configuration was previously the exclusive preserve of the S60 R. Another new option for the S60 line is a compass built into the rearview mirror. The range of upholstery has been renewed with a sporty leather seating surface option in two contrasting shades and textures topped with contrasting stitching.
In the Volvo tradition, the S60 benefits from a comprehensive array of safety features. All models are now equipped with Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). They join the list of standard Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) with side airbags and Inflatable Curtain (IC), Whiplash Protection Seating System (WHIPS), seat belts with pyrotechnic pretensioners in all seating positions, dual-stage front airbags (SRS), Volvo's safety cage construction and the ISO-FIX attachment for rearward-facing child safety seats.
Volvo has been a pioneer and leader in the turbocharging of family cars for more than a quarter of a century. Thus, all S60 models are turbocharged. Four version of the versatile S60 sport sedan are offered for 2007: the S60 2.5T, S60 2.5T AWD, S60 T5 and the 300-horsepower S60 R (see separate S60 R Model Overview).
All-Wheel Drive with Instant Traction™ is standard on the S60 2.5T AWD. It mates with the turbocharged engine for positive, instantaneous torque and optimum launch performance. The computer controlled Haldex all-wheel-drive system instantly delivers up to 50 percent more torque to the rear axle only when needed, such as during takeoff.Source - Volvo
