This car was driven by Cotton Owens, from Spartanburg, SC, known as the 'King of the Modifiers.' He won many modified races in the 1940's and 1950's. He won the Modified-Sportsman Race twice (1953 and 1954) at the Daytona Beach Road Course. In 1970, he was inducted into the Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame at Darlington.

In 1955, he was inducted into the Mechanics Hall of Fame in Talladega, Alabama.
