1951 MG YA news, pictures, and information

Saloon
Chassis Num: Y6726

Sold for $8,800 at 2006 RM Auctions.
In 1924 the MG Company, 'Morris Garages', began production of automobiles, a tradition it would continue until 2005 when MG Rover went bankrupt. From 1947 through 1953 the MG Company produced the Y Saloon. The design was based heavily on pre-war vehicles. If the war had not occurred, this design would have been introduced years prior. It was a vehicle that had seating for four, four doors, and a 1250 cc XPAG engine. The four-cylinder engine produced just over 50 horsepower while the four-speed manual gearbox sent the power to the rear wheels. Four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes provided the stopping power. The bodies were suspended in place by an independent front suspension with leaf springs and beam axle rear. All Y models came equipped with a built-in Jackall hydraulic jacking system, steel sunroof, and an opening windscreen.

During its production lifespan, only 6,158 examples were produced.

At the 2006 RM Auction in Monterey, CA this vehicle was expected to sell between $10,000 - $15,000. When the bidding had ceased a new owner had been found to the tune of $8,800. Since there was no reserve, the lot was sold.
