The Sports 2000 was an amateur road racing series that used two-seater, rear-engined, open-cockpit, full-bodied sports-prototype racing cars. It was developed by John Webb as an affordable form of sports car racing. The body design of the vehicles was similar to the two-liter Group 6 sports racing cars but utilized an inexpensive drivetrain consisting of a two-liter 'Pinto' overhead camshaft engine mated to a Volkswagen-based Hewland MK 9 transaxle. Companies that built Sports 2000 chassis included Chevron, Crossle, March, Lola, Carbir, MCR, Reynard, Royale, Rotor, Swift, Shannon, Van Diemen, and Tiga Race cars.
