The B17, B17B, and B17C were constructed in 1970 for Formula Competition. The B17 was used in Formula 2 competition; the B17B was used in Formula 3 competition; and the B17C was used in Formula B competition.
There were a total of 9 examples of the B17. Though much of Bennett's time was spent on developing the B16 Sports Car, the B17 was an improved racer over the vehicle it replaced. Upgrades were made to the suspension with new uprights, steering arms. The chassis was stronger as it moved closer to a monocoque setup. Weight was reduced by installing lighter wheels. Aerodynamics were improved with wings fitted to both the front and rear.
