1967 Ford Escort Twin Cam news, pictures, and information

Coupe

From its inception in 1966, the SCCA Trans Am Series consisted of two classes. During the era when this Escort raced the rules had classes divided as under two liters and over two liters.

In those early years of the TransAm Series there were no vehicle offerings in Ford's U.S. lineup that could compete in the under two liter class. However, one ford fanatic, Rob Tanner, looked overseas at the English Ford offerings and discovered that the English Ford Escort Twin Cam was in fact eligible to compete in the series.

Ford of England had set their sights on a super-tuned Escort to compete in FIA Rallys all across Europe and as a result the Escort Twin Cam was born. Many performance upgrades were incorporated into the Twin Cam version of the Escort, not the least of which was the special cylinder head for which the car was named. Lotus, the famed race car manufacturer, provided the dual overhead cam cylinder head which was a dramatic improvement over the standard road car cylinder head. These cars were a success in Europe in rally competition but they also translated well to road course competition as well.

The current owner is the original owner of this car and he entered several SCCA Trans Am events in the United States and Canada. The car is now restored to its original livery and the current owner enjoys entering it in vintage races, with great success.
