2000 BAR 002 news, pictures, and information

For the 2000 Formula One season, BAR (British American Racing) entered their 002 which had been designed by Malcolm Oastler. The team was fairly new to the sport, with their first BAR vehicle appearing in 1999. They ended that season in last place. Jacques Villeneuve had joined the team in 1999 and brought with him a World Championship victory which he obtained in 1997. He was joined by Brazilian Ricardo Zonta who was in his second year driving for the team.

In 1999 the team failed to score a point. Now in their third year, and powered by a Honda RA000E engine, were hopeful on providing podium finishes for the team. This was the inaugural year for the Honda engine and began a relationship that would last for several years before Honda bought the BAR team in 2006.

Villeneuve scored seven points in the Bar/Honda 002 while Zonta earned three. The team finished in fifth place in the Constructors' Championship with a total of 20 points.

Chassis Num: 020-05

The new Honda-powered British American Racing 020 chassis was introduced in 2000. It was a significant improvement over the period car, and was considerably more reliable than the team's previous effort. The team enjoyed a best finish of 4th place. On several occasions, the cars looked like points-scoring contenders. As the season came to a close, the team finished 4th in the constructors' championships - a significant improvement from the Team's 1999 result.

This car, chassis number 020-05, is a points-scoring race chassis (less engine) as used by both British American Racing drivers in the FIA 2000 Formula One World Championship. The car was raced by Villeneuve at the Silverstone, Barcelona and Budapest Grand Prix and scored a 6th-place points scoring finish in the hands of Ricardo Zonta at the Italian Grand Prix.

It is finished in Lucky Strike livery. It was originally the property of Brawn GP after the assets of the former Honda racing F1 Team were acquired by the Brawn GP Formula One team.

In 2012, the car was offered for sale at Coys 'Legende et Passion' Monaco sale where it was estimated to sell for €20,000 - €30,000.

Formula One - Spanish Grand Prix
Kimi Raikkonen bagged his second podium on the trot in Barcelona, charging hard to finish third behind first time grand prix winner Pastor Maldonado and, by just half a second, Fernando Alonso. The Finn was disappointed not to finish on the top step, though, claiming that the Lotus E20 had the potential to have won every race this year so far. Nevertheless, he is now fourth in the Drivers' Championship, just 12 points behind leaders Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Starting on the sec...[Read more...]
1958 Moroccan Grand Prix: British All the Way
After years of frustration, and well past his life-expectancy, Mike Hawthorn would be on the verge of his first World Championship. This was more than likely Hawthorn's last and best hope at a World Championship title. Just one last race, and a fellow Brit, would separate Hawthorn from his World Championship. Emotionally, Hawthorn was done. The last few seasons had seen Hawthorn fail to experience anywhere near the level of success he had even in his rookie year of 1952. In 1952, with an unde...[Read more...]
