In 1957, Gordon Parker, an Englishman, commissioned Herbert Kingsbury, an engineer, to create the HK Special Jaguar, which was the realization of Parker's dream to set the fastest time of the day at the Brighton Speed Trials. After having set a new record at Brighton, he entered the car in hill-climbs such as Prescott, Shelsely-Walsh, Wiscombe, Brands Hatch and many others. At the former Duxford Air Base, he ran against Dan Garlits and Sidney Allard's dragsters. The HK Special was a sprint and hill climber which achieved records at many British racing venues in the early 1960s. The car is powered by an XK-120, 3.5-liter Jaguar engine with two Arnott superchargers, producing over 400 horsepower. The car is equipped with a Lucas magneto, a four-speed Wilson pre-selector gearbox, an independent front suspension, a deDion independent rear suspension, Alfin drum rear brakes and disc brakes in the front.
In 1957, Gordon Parker, a wealthy Englishman, commissioned Herpert Kingsbury, an engineer, to create the HK Special Jaguar, which was the realization of one man's dream to set the fastest time of the day at the Brighton Speed Trials. After succeeding at that goal, he raced the car in hill climbs, which are a passion to British sports car enthusiasts.
The last owner, a French collector, raced the car in the LeMans Speed Trials in 1971. He then retired the car and it was displayed in the LeMans Museum for some time. It was later taken out of the museum and the car had not seen the light of day until the current owner purchased it in 2001. The car was in a deplorable state, but thankfully, all in one piece, which turned out to be a blessing because it is one-of-a-kind.
This car underwent a full restoration from 2001 to 2006.
