2008 Ruf CTR-3 news, pictures, and information

Exactly 20 years after the original CTR, German tuning house RÚF has announced the introduction of its third generation CTR3 coinciding wîth the launch of its new plant in Bahrain. The latest version's bodywork is a RÚF creation in aluminum and carbon-fiber and like the original, the CTR3 will be one of the fastest Porsches on offer when it's released.

RÚF has utilized racing technologies first seen on its 911-based RT12 offering. Powering the CTR3 is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat six engine pumping out 700 bhp at 7,000 rpm wîth torque topping out at 657 lb-ft. To save weight its developers added several unique body panels made from lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber as well as a new lattice tubing spaceframe. Drive is sent to the wheels via a six-speed sequential manual gearbox that allows the CTR3 to reach a top speed of 235 mph.

When the original CTR was released in 1987, it out-performed many of the supercars of its era including cars like the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach and even Porsche's own 959. The CTR3 is set to do the same but won't come cheap as pricing is set at $510,000 mark.

1967 Can-Am Road America: The Beginning of the 'Bruce and Denny Show'
While Formula One will be forever considered the pinnacle of motorsport, from a period between 1966 and 1986 there existed a series that would likely be the closest to 'anything goes' as any motor racing series could truly get. Based upon the FIA Group 7 cars but allowed to showcase unlimited engine sizes and unfettered aerodynamics, the Can-Am cars would have to be considered the pinnacle of motorsport technology and power of their era. And for more than a couple of years there would be one tea...[Read more...]
1961 Targa Florio: Porsche Dominance, Ferrari Victorious
The first race held on the island of Sicily that included an automobile would take place between the car, a bicycle and a horse. Although the gentleman on the bicycle would drop out rather early due to leg cramps constantly going up and down on the mountainous roads, the battle between the de Dion motor tricycle and the horse would be an intriguing one. In the end, the same principles that played out in that first race would come into play many years later when the island hosted the 1961 Targa F...[Read more...]
