The Peyote MKII began life like many racing machines that circled club tracks throughout the United States - through the dedication of a homegrown mechanic working in his garage trying to achieve a more competitive vehicle.

William Aldrich-Ames of Minneapolis, Minnesota purchased a crashed 1957 Triumph TR3 and repaired it to the appropriate specifications for the SCCA E-Production category. The car did well, but was never a serious contender for victory. To make the vehicle more competitive, Ames removed the body and began working on lowering the cars center of gravity. The frame was modified and the engine lowered. The body was replaced with an aluminum body from scraps Ames had found at the junkyard. The result of this work was dubbed the Peyote Special. The name 'Special' referred to a type of one-off racing vehicle intended for specific competition, and in no way meant the vehicle was attractive. It was hideous and it did not take long before Ames re-worked the body, creating the Peyote MKII.

Ames used the car in competition until 1962 when it was sold. The car continues to race in historic and vintage events.

Most of the vehicle is similar to a Triumph TR3, such as the suspension, engine and gearbox. The body is aluminum and the brakes are discs in the front and drums at the rear. The dimensions are similar to the TR3, though there were some modifications which makes this vehicle unique. The driving position is on the right-hand side and there are exhaust pipes that flow on the outside of the vehicle.
