1999 Riley and Scott MK III

The Riley & Scott Company is based in the United States and has enjoyed success in racing and providing solid chassis. The history of the company dates back to 1990 with their MKI Trans Am Racing Car. From there, the company has grown into a dominant force that has captured victories or podium finishes in most major American road-racing championships. The MK III is an example of their efforts; scoring 41 victories in 87 starts making it one of the top prototype racers of the 1990 era. It captured victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona which was an amazing accomplishment considering the fierce competition.

The MK III featured a monocoque construction comprised of steel and carbon fiber. The suspension was made up of double wishbones and push-rod actuated dampers. A number of engine options were available and could be easily fitted into the engine bay. The most popular were the pushrod V8 Ford's and the quad-cam Oldsmobile V8. Horsepower varied but generally produced over 600 horsepower.

Production continued until the close of the 1990s when the company focused its efforts on creating the Cadillac prototype. In 2001, the MK III C-Type was introduced. Most of the important improvements were to the chassis, yet it still retained its simplistic and conventional design. Modifications to the engine bay made it possible to mount the engine lower, improving the car's center-of-gravity. The front of the vehicle received mild improvements; round headlights replaced the prior square units and a new front splitter was added. These changes improved the vehicle's aerodynamics.

The Riley & Scott MK III and the MK IIIC were impressive competitors during their racing careers. They provided much competition for the Ferrari 333 SP, but were unable to beat Audi for a LeMans victory.
