The Netherlands is really beginning to make a solid name for themselves in the world of automobile production. The latest arrival is Hansen, who attempts to enter the supercar market, one of the most grueling and difficult automobile markets to tackle. Other notable Netherlands automobile producers are Donkervoort, who have a history of creating attractive and sporty machines similar to the Lotus 7. Then there is Spyker, who has forged a name for themselves in the supercar community and in motorsports. Spyker current sells in many continents, with their products a frequent favorite at motor shows.
The Hansen Company was founded by Giel Hansen in 2007 with the purpose of building a five-liter V10-powered supercar. The engine will be mounted mid-ship and power the rear wheels. There will be two flavors of their supercar, one intended for the track, the GT-R, and the other for the road, the GT. The first expected to be created is the GT-R, created from a monocoque and clothed in aluminum, steel honeycomb, and composite. These materials are both lightweight and rigid. The suspension will be comprised of double wishbones in both the front and the rear. Also in each of the four corners are vented discs. The six-speed gearbox will be mated to the 500 horsepower engine and should be able to propel the lightweight, 1100kg, car to an impressive top speed.
In a way, Hansen is reverting to common practices of many years ago; they are creating the rolling chassis and have outsourced the design of the vehicle to a Portuguese design company Luso Motors. The design created is very aerodynamic and curvy with emphasis on both form and function. There is a transparent roof which gives the passengers a nearly 360-degree of their surroundings. Production is schedule for mid-2007 with a completed version expected closer to 2008.
