Porsche Uncovers Cayenne GTS, Fourth Model in Remarkable Cayenne Line-Up at Chicago's 100th Anniversary Auto Show

As Chicago was holding its first successful auto show in 1901, Professor Ferdinand Porsche was showing his latest project in Paris, France. The Lohner-Porsche, the first successful zero emission vehicle on the market generated great interest at the Paris Auto Show in 1900, as did the Lohner-Porsche Hybrid that followed closely on its heels when it was unveiled in 1901.

The inventive design, without a transmission or gearbox, established the then 24-year-old as a pioneer in the early days of the automobile. Shortly thereafter, Ferdinand Porsche added two internal combustion engines to charge the batteries for the front wheel hub motors, thus creating the world's first hybrid.

More than 100 years after Ferdinand Porsche's innovative work, and its debut in Paris, the engineers at Porsche's Research and Development Center in Weissach, Germany, have returned to Ferdinand's basic concept and are busy developing the Cayenne hybrid, and soon to follow, the Panamera Hybrid.

While the Porsche Hybrid Systems are in development, the latest edition of the Cayenne family, the Cayenne GTS, makes its debut in Chicago. While the Cayenne has already earned a reputation for exceptional on and off-road handling characteristics, the new Cayenne GTS will offer the best on-road characteristics of any Cayenne to date.

The GTS features the same 4.8 liter, direct injection V-8 engine as the Cayenne S but a larger intake manifold and other modifications allow it to produce an impressive 405hp. And for the first time in North America, you can have a Porsche V-8 paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The GTS is equipped with 21-inch alloy wheels carrying 295/35 R21 tires that, when combined with standard air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management, offer remarkable street handling that most would never equate to a sport utility vehicle.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive importers of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne sport utility vehicles for the United States and Canada. A wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Dr. Ing.h.c. F. Porsche AG, PCNA employs approximately 250 people who provide Porsche vehicles, parts, service, marketing and training for its 212 U.S. and Canadian dealers. They, in turn, provide Porsche owners with best-in-class service.

New Porsche Cayenne GTS now even more powerful

Stuttgart. With the new Cayenne GTS, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is reiterating the successful Cayenne series' prominence in the sporty SUV segment. The model, which celebrates its world debut at the IAA in Frankfurt, features an enhanced 4.8-liter V8, has been lowered by 24 millimeters and has a specially developed chassis: it is the first Cayenne to feature the electronically controlled damping system, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with steel springs. This combination was previously reserved exclusively for Porsche sports cars.

The 4.8-liter engine with direct gasoline fuel injection (DFI) in the Cayenne GTS yields 405bhp (298 kW) at 6,500 revolutions per minute – 20bhp more than in the Cayenne S. Maximum torque remains unchanged at 500Nm at 3,500 revolutions per minute.

This, the sportiest of Porsche SUVs, comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox and a shorter axle drive ratio than the Cayenne S (4.1:1 as opposed to 3.55:1). The Cayenne GTS can thus accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 6.1 seconds, precisely 0.5 seconds quicker than the Cayenne S.

The Cayenne GTS is fitted with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) permanent all-wheel drive and the adaptive PASM chassis as standard. As well as optional air suspension, the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active anti-roll system is available to enhance handling and ride comfort. Newly developed 12-way sports seats and a leather-Alcantara mix emphasize the sporty interior.

The new Cayenne GTS is instantly recognizable: the front and rear look the same as the Cayenne Turbo, and the striking 14mm wheel-arch enlargements offer plenty of space for the standard 21-inch alloy rims with 295/35 R21 tires. Two new colors have also been reserved exclusively for the GTS: GTS Red and Nordic Gold Metallic.

The new Cayenne model with Tiptronic S transmission has an average consumption of 13.9 liters/100 km in accordance with EU standards. Global dispatch will start in February 2008. In Germany it will cost 76,725 Euros including 19 percent VAT and country-specific requirements; the base price is 64,300 Euros. The base price for the USA (MSRP USA) is US $69,300.

GTS to Offer Best On-Road Characteristics of Any Cayenne Porsche

Porsche will add some spice to the Toronto Auto Show by unveiling the Cayenne GTS to the Canadian public. Already known for exceptional on and off-road prowess, the GTS has been formulated, tested and tweaked to offer the best on-road characteristics of any Cayenne Porsche has ever produced. Porsche reveals the car at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, at a press conference at the Toronto Auto Show.

The Cayenne GTS features a 405hp 4.8 liter V-8 engine. Based on the same V8 found in the Cayenne S, this more robust powerplant can be coupled either with an automatic Tiptronic S or, for the first time in a Cayenne V8, a six-speed manual transmission for those who want to take full advantage of this new power and suspension package.

The Cayenne GTS front end is reminiscent of the Cayenne Turbo while the body has a lower stance and a striking new wheel-arch design that complements the new 21-inch rims. The interior boasts sportier redesigned front and rear seats.

The 2008 Cayenne GTS goes on sale later this month in Canada and pricing for this new model is CAN $86,100.
