1978 Cadillac Eldorado

The Cadillac Eldorado would be drastically updated in 1979, following in a similar fashion to the other full-size Cadillacs, embracing a downsized platform. So for 1978, the Eldorado received no major changes. The most visual change was in the front; the crosshatch grille was revised and featured heavier horizontal bars. The grille pattern continued below a bumper divide, between the license plate and bumper guards. Another feature was the padded Elk Grain vinyl top. Eldorado block letters were positioned above the upper grille bar. The front bumper was a work of art, housing auxiliary lamps, and finished in bright chrome. The standard engine was a large 7-liter V8 offered with either a carburetor or fuel injection. The list of standard features was extensive, including disc brakes, electronic level control, automatic climate control, power windows and door locks, Freedom battery, lamp monitors, trip odometer, white-whitewall steel-belted radial tires, six-way power seat, cornering lights, three-speed wipers, Soft-Ray tinted glass, accent striping, bumper impact strips, stowaway spare tire, vanity light, color-keyed litter container, and remote control left-hand mirror.

The list of options was quite extensive as well, capable of satisfying even the most discerning customers. The list included a 40-channel CB, 8-track tape player, Astroroof and sunroof.

In 1976, Cadillac introduced the Eldorado Biarritz, in tribute to the Biarritz models that had become so popular during the mid-1950s and continued into the 1960s. For 1978, the Biarritz option added a convertible-like padded vinyl top, unique script, body chrome moldings, and accent stripes. The customization continued on the interior, with Sierra Grain leather contoured pillow-style seats in a variety of colors including white, dark carmine, antique yellow, antique light blue, or antique medium saddle. Five exterior colors were available including Cotillion White, Mediterranean Blue Firemist, Carmine Red, Colonial Yellow, and Ruidoso Saddle.

The Biarritz package included opera lamps, a remote-control passenger-side mirror, and color-coordinated wheel discs. A Custom Biarritz Classic option was also available, which added a two-tone paint scheme.
