The Apollo cars had nearly everything they needed to be successful; attractive styling and potent power. What they lacked was the necessary marketing, dealer network, and financial backing. Another shortcoming was the expense of the cars and the poor reputation of the Buick V8 engine.
Production continued until 1964, after that, they supplied the bodies to a Texas based firm for their Vetta Ventura. They were, in many respects, an Apollo car with a 'Vetta' nameplate. Many refer to them as the 'Texas Apollo.' The cars were produced by Vanguard Motors in Dallas, Texas and featured unique frames, suspension and drivelines and bodies similar to the Apollo. Production lasted two years with only 19 examples ever created. These cars were hand created which means no two were exactly alike.
This example is a 1967 Vetta Ventura Coupe with chassis number KP3001046. This vehicle is perhaps the most unique Vetta ever created, as it was the prototype coupe and features many body modifications not seen on any other production models. It has flared wheel wells which gives it an aggressive and wide stance and better performance on the road. It is painted in Fly Yellow with a black interior with yellow piping. There are bucket seats and proper luggage straps for stowing luggage and gear.
This vehicle was brought to the 2007 Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction presented by RM Auctions, where it was estimated to sell for $40,000 - $50,000. It was offered without reserve with the winning bid reaching $28,600 including buyer's premium. The lot was sold.
