1942 Oldsmobile B-44 Special Series 68

1942 Oldsmobile B-44 Special Series 68 Sold for $14,300 at 2007 Vintage Motor Cars at Hershey.
As the United States was preparing for entry into the Second World War, Oldsmobile adopted a theme for their 1942 models, designating the entire line as 'B-44.' The entire industry soon ceased production of automobiles in support of the war effort and to defense material.

The Series Special Oldsmobile in 1942 had a unusual 'double-duty bumper.' What appeared to be a floating grille bar was actually part of the bumper.

This particular vehicle is a Series 68, meaning it has the eight-cylinder engine. The series 66 was fitted with the six-cylinder engine. The eight-cylinder L-head engine displaces 257 cubic-inches and produces 110 horsepower. There is a Hydra-matic four-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. This car has its share of dents, dings, scratches, and rust. The floor and body appear to be solid and straight. The power convertible top has reasonably good canvas material. The odometer shows 41,767 miles and it was last inspected in 1965 in Pennsylvania.

There were 848 examples produced in 1942 and was Oldsmobile's second most exclusive vehicle for that model year. Only the 98 series ragtop had fewer sales. This 1942 Oldsmobile B-44 Special Series 68 Convertible Coupe was offered for sale at the Vintage Motor Cars sale at Hershey, PA presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $10,000 - $15,000 and offered without reserve. The lot was sold for $14,300 including buyer's premium.
