1992 Ferrari 348 Challenge

The Ferrari 308 and 328 were in production for over a decade and during that time its exterior was virtually unchanged, however, the V8 engine was given several significant upgrades over the 14-year lifespan. Among the changes were fuel injection and four valves per cylinder. In 1989, it was replaced by the 348 which came with a 3.4-liter V8 engine, a five-speed gearbox bolted directly to the engine, and styling cues sourced from the Testarossa. Bodystyles, in a similar fashion to its predecessor, included a Berlinetta and a Targa. During its five-year production lifespan, several limited edition models were offered. One of those models was the 348 'Challenge' which was intended to be raced by customers in a one-model race series, which became known as the Ferrari Challenge Series.

Initiated by Ferrari Club Nederland, the Ferrari 348 Challenge Series made its debut in 1993. The engine and bodies were similar to the road-going cars. Changers were mainly safety enhancements that included modified brake pads, smaller battery in a different position, racing slick tires, a roll cage, and racing seat belts. In 1994 the G-spec engined cars had to be modified with the H-spec cylinder heads and injection system.

The series lasted from 1993 through 1995 when it was replaced by the F355 Challenge. During its production lifespan, a total of 57 examples were built.
