2008 Dallara Andersen Racing IndyLights news, pictures, and information
About
Andersen Racing strives to provide the best and most comprehensive training possible for future open-wheel superstars while giving its marketing partners media exposure and hospitality opportunities at some of the most prestigious events in North America. The team provides a unique, three-step program utilizing multiple entries in three different formula car support series:
• the F2000 Championship (webcast)
• Star Mazda (televised on SPEED)
• Firestone Indy Lights (televised on ESPN2)
Firestone Indy Lights is IndyCar's development series. Indy Lights races are all run as support events to IndyCar Series races, including the Indianapolis 500, the world's largest single-day sporting event.
Andersen Racing is the official development team of Rahal Letterman Racing (RLR). RLR competes in both the IndyCar Series and in American Le Mans Series endurance sports car races. RLR is owned by racing superstar Bobby Rahal and late-night talk show host David Letterman.
Andersen Racing's F2000 team is the official factory team of Van Diemen, the most successful chassis in that series' history.
In 2008 Andersen Racing will field multiple entries in 42 races in 19 states and provinces at some of the best facilities on the continent, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Andersen Racing's principals, brother Dan and John Andersen, have extensive experience in series administration as well as team management. They've worked with many of today's top open-wheel stars, including several Indy 500 winners. They also understand the sport from a family perspective, as both of Dan Andersen's children raced in the past. Dan's son, Mike Andersen, is a three-time SCCA Formula Continental national champion.
Andersen Racing is headquartered at Andersen RacePark, an 18-acre facility it owns in Palmetto, Fla. that includes a 1-mile test track. This also showcases the team's efforts to always go one step beyond its competition, as even most teams in racing's major leagues do not own their own testing facility.
Ownership of a test track in sunny Florida greatly enhances Andersen Racing's testing program. Other teams in various series may rent the track for testing as the track's schedule permits. Andersen RacePark also hosts an active karting community. More information on the track is available at andersenracepark.com.

Herrington Joins RLR/Andersen Racing For Rest of Firestone Indy Lights Season
Daniel Herrington plans to take his oval test at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday and then compete in the four remaining Firestone Indy Lights races this year with RLR/Andersen Racing, team co-owner Dan Andersen said today.Herrington, who has competed in nine Firestone Indy Lights races over the last two years, replaces Andrew Prendeville, who left the team to pursue other opportunities. Prendeville's older brother, Doug, will continue to drive for the Palmetto, Fla.-based team in the F2000 Championship Series.
'Andrew gave our team its first podium finish in the Firestone Indy Lights Series last year, and we wish him the best,' Andersen said. 'Although Daniel hasn't been in any oval Indy Lights races yet, he finished second at Milwaukee in a Star Mazda race in 2006. We expect him to pass his rookie oval test quickly, and we'll field cars for both him and J.R. Hildebrand at the Kentucky race on Aug. 9.'
The Kentucky 100 Firestone Indy Lights race supports the IndyCar Series' Mei jer Indy 300 that Saturday night at the 1.5-mile oval in Sparta, Ky.
RLR/Andersen Racing's program for Hildebrand, who drives the Allied Building Products No. 25, remains unchanged. Hildebrand is currently fourth in the championship's point standings, and RLR/Andersen Racing is fourth in that series' entrant standings. Andersen Racing also leads the current point standings in the Star Mazda Championship with Charles Hall, as well as the F2000 Championship with Anders Krohn.
Herrington competed in five Firestone Indy Lights races last year with SpeedWorks and four races this year with Michael Crawford Motorsports. He has four top-10 finishes in those nine races and one top-five, as he finished third in the second half of the Watkins Glen doubleheader last year in Watkins Glen, N.Y. He was running at the finish in all but one event.
In between driving in occasional events this year, he's been serving as a spotter for IndyCar driver Justin Wilson.
Herrington finished tenth in the Star Mazda Championship in 2006, recording a victory at Houston and two seconds to take that series' points lead until he was forced to withdraw after an accident ate up the bulk of his budget. He competed in Formula BMW USA in 2005. He won the Expert Series in the Skip Barber Eastern Regional Series in 2004, and the SO class championship in the NASA Spec E-30 series in 2003. He has also competed in selected Grand-Am KONI Challenge sports car races.
'I raced against Andersen Racing in Formula Mazda in 2006 when I ran half a season with AIM Autosport,' Herrington said. 'I stayed in touch with Dan Andersen ever since then, but I haven't had the opportunity to work with them until this opportunity occurred.
'I know how hard they work, and they've had some good results,' Herrington said. 'The Kentucky race will be my first time on a big oval, although I got second at Milwaukee in a Star Mazda race. I competed in the Lights races at Mid-Ohio last weekend, and we had some good speed there. I've never raced at Infineon or Chicagoland either, but I'm hoping we'll do well. The biggest thing I want to do is to learn as much as I can and get as much experience as I can.'
A native of Baltimore, Herrington turned 22 on July 12. He currently lives in Winston-Salem, N.C. He will begin his senior year as an engineering student at North Carolina State University the week before the Infineon doubleheader.
Herrington's Web site is at danielherrington.com. The team's Web sites are at andersenracingteam.com and andersenracepark.com. The series' Web site is at indycar.com/indylights.
