The Oldsmobile Company was founded in 1897 by R.E. Olds in Lansing, Michigan. In 1904, Olds sold his interest to his stockholders and in 1908, Oldsmobile became part of General Motors. Oldsmobile was the flagship luxury car of General Motors and the Autocrat and Limited models were among the biggest and most powerful luxury cars of the period.

Auction entries : 3The Oldsmobile Autocrat was a mid-range model introduced for 1911. It rested on a 124-inch wheelbase and was based on a frame comprised of a pressed alloy of nickel and steel. Power was from a four-cylinder engine, with the cylinders featuring an increased displacement shared by the company's flagship Limited model. The cylinders were cast in pairs and displaced 471 cubic-inches. The vertical T-head engine was basically a smaller version of the Limited's six-cylinder engine, offering 50 horsepower. The Autocrat was offered in five different body styles clothed in aluminum coachwork trimmed with leather and offered with three factory paint colors: Brewster green, royal blue, and cardinal red. Optional equipment included a top assembly, windshield, and the company's new air-type self-starter. Standard equipment included 8-inch headlamps, side and tail lamps, Trauffault-Hartford shock absorbers, an Oldsmobile dragon horn, and a toolset. In 1910, two factory prototype Oldsmobile Autocrat's were entered in the Vanderbilt Cup on Long Island, where team captain Harry Stillman finished a respectable 11th place.
