1997 Ferrari 310B F1 news, pictures, and information

A modern Formula One car is a single-seat, open cockpit, open wheel race car with substantial front and rear wings, and engine positioned behind the driver. The regulations governing the cars are unique to the championship. The Formula One regulations specify that cars must be constructed by the racing teams themselves.

The use of aerodynamics to increase the cars' grip was pioneered in Formula One in the late 1960's by Lotus, Ferrari and Brabham. As well as being blindingly fast in a straight line, F1 cars also have incredible cornering ability.

The 1997 310B was Ferrari designer John Barndard's attempt to keep rival Williams off the podium. It was an improved design package, but still used Ferrari's powerful V-10. In 1997 Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine raced for Ferrari. They had not been as competitive as they hoped for in the years preceding, however, Schumacher as the lead driver led Ferrari to 5 victories in the 1997 season. Those results might have catapulted Ferrari and Michael into the World Champion if it weren't for an incident with rival Jacques Villeneuve in the last race of the season. Nevertheless, the 310B was an incredibly successful car for Ferrari.
Grand Prix Circuits: Pau Circuit
Some grand prix circuits just have a mythical status about them. Besides the drivers and great races, a lot of the equation comes down to how memorable the circuit truly is. In the case of the Pau Circuit, its sheer place in motorsport history and lore makes this tight, twisting circuit a true legend. From its very beginnings, Pau would be at the heart of travel and transportation. Situated in a rather deep valley with the Pyrenees mountains lending an imposing back-drop, the area that would ...[Read more...]

Formula One returns to the United States of America next week with the penultimate round of the 2012 Formula One World Championship to be held at the purpose-built Circuit of the Americas on Sunday 18 November. • Austin is the 10th venue for a F1 race in the USA (after Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Long Beach, Phoenix, Riverside, Sebring and Watkins Glen) • Simulations suggest the circuit has more corners over 250 kph than Spa and more below 100 kph than Hungary • A qualifying ...[Read more...]
1999 European Grand Prix: The First and Last
When Johnny Herbert signed with the brand new Stewart-Ford Racing team many believed Herbert to have missed out on his opportunity at success in Formula One. In fact, many would see a great divide between him and the obvious number one driver Rubens Barrichello. However, on the 26th of September Herbert would show he still had some fight within and would actually be the one to earn a very important first for the team. Herbert's Formula One career would go through something of a renaissance af...[Read more...]
1991 24 Hours of Le Mans: Facing the Giants
It had been more than thirty years but the Silver Arrows would compete, and win, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jaguar would also earn its first victory in more than thirty years when it took the overall honors in 1988. And then there was Porsche, the most dominant mark in Le Mans history. But each of these three manufacturers shared something in common. Even with the victories by Ford during the 1960s there was something very interesting about the list of victors in the 24 French enduro—none of them ...[Read more...]
Spanish Grand Prix: Race
Nico Rosberg finished the Spanish Grand Prix in seventh place today with Michael Schumacher retiring on lap13. • Nico followed a three-stop tyre strategy, pitting on laps 9, 22 and 40 • Nico's tyre usage was soft (9 laps), soft (13 laps), hard (18 laps), hard (26 laps) • Michael retired in turn one at the start of lap 13 following a collision with Bruno Senna's Williams • The 2012 season has now seen five winners from five races, something that last occurred in 1983 Nico Rosberg[...[Read more...]
