DESIGN

The 2009 Dodge Avenger builds on the bold, aggressive styling of the Dodge Charger.

From the front, there's no mistaking Dodge's heritage in Avenger's aggressive exterior lines. The brand's signature crosshair grille and large, modern quad headlamps housed in black add to Dodge Avenger's menacing glare.

Avenger's side profile shares more traits wîth the Dodge Charger. Muscular rear shoulders, large wheels and tires and a sleek rear spoiler embody the Dodge brand attributes of bold, powerful and capable.

From the rear, large, expressive taillamp modules placed at the corners frame the deck lid, which includes a sleekly integrated, finely tuned body-color spoiler. Both the spoiler and chrome-tipped dual exhaust outlets communicate the performance capability of the Dodge Avenger R/T's 3.5-liter engine.

The 2009 Dodge Avenger rides on a 108.9-inch wheelbase and a 61.8-inch track, which adds to its athletic stance, improves ride quality and stability and maximizes crush space in the engine compartment.

Dodge Avenger's interior provides comfortable seating for the driver and up to four passengers. The interior cabin is spacious wîth 100.5 cu. ft. of room. Luggage volume in the trunk is a competitive 13.41 cubic feet.

4-speed Automatic
Three engine options power 2009 Dodge Avenger models sold in the Únited States: the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder World Engine, available Flex Fuel Vehicle (FFV) 2.7-liter V-6 engine and an available 3.5-liter V-6 engine coupled wîth a six-speed automatic transaxle wîth Auto Stick.

The 2009 Dodge Avenger SE and SXT feature a standard four-cylinder engine that provides excellent fuel economy. Dodge Avenger's 2.4-liter World Engine wîth dual variable-valve timing produces 173 horsepower (129 kW) and 166 lb.-ft. (225 N•m) of torque and achieves 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

All 2009 Dodge Avenger sedans equipped wîth the 2.4-liter four-cylinder World Engine sold in California, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington meet the cleanest tailpipe and evaporative standards in the world and will be certified as a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV).

The Dodge Avenger SXT features an available Flex Fuel Vehicle (FFV) 2.7-liter V-6 engine that provides value- and performance-conscious consumers the power of a V-6 engine at a price that compares wîth the competitions' four-cylinder engines. Dodge Avenger's 2.7-liter V-6 engine produces 186 horsepower (139 kW) and 191 lb.-ft. (260 N•m) of torque. This 2.7-liter V-6 engine achieves 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. It also can operate effectively on any blend of gasoline and fuel-grade ethanol up to E85.

The 2009 Dodge Avenger R/T is powered by a 3.5-liter High Output V-6 engine coupled wîth a six-speed automatic transaxle producing 235 horsepower (175 kW) and 232 lb.-ft. (315 N•m) of torque. This 3.5-liter V-6 engine achieves 16 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

The Dodge Avenger's six-speed automatic transaxle provides quicker standing-start acceleration than a four- or five-speed transaxle because of its numerically higher first-gear ratio. A robust differential wîth increased torque capacity enhances launch performance by requiring less torque management, electronically limiting the torque that is available during the initial stages of standing-start acceleration. Smaller steps between ratios also make for a smooth, quiet ride, as the engine speed doesn't change as often wîth each shift. In addition, more ratio choices, more appropriate ratios for quicker acceleration and a lower overall top-gear ratio provide a quiet ride and improved fuel economy at highway speeds.

Based on the platform of the Mitsubishi Galant the Dodge Avenger was produced from1995 through 2000. A two-door sports coupe, the Avenger easily fits up to four passengers with ease, yet is still sleek and powerful enough to attract sporty drivers.

The Avenger was available in both base and ES trim models and originally was available in two different engine size an transmission types, the four-cylinder 5-speed base model and the V6 automatic ES. The V6 eventually became standard on all trim models, but was only available as an automatic. The original Avenger featured 103in wheelbase. The V6 engine was only available with the A604 transmission and could not be swapped out easily due to a lack of transmission capable of fitting around the front axle.

Born out of a partnership between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, the Dodge Avenger featured an exciting style and a spacious cabin. The Avenger was built by Diamon Star Motors, along with the similar Chrysler Sebring coupe on a stretched Mitsubishi Galant platform

The Avenger was discontinued in 2000 and Dodge's newest coupe was renamed the Stratus Coupe.

In 2008 the Dodge Avenger name resurfaced as an athletically designed 4-door sedan that became the successor to the Dodge Stratus. Sharing its platform with the Chrysler Sebring the '08 Dodge Avenger featured 3 engines, a fuel efficient, relatively weak 2.4 liter 4-cylinder capable of 173 horsepower, the mid range offering 189 horsepower 2.7 liter V6 and a 3.5 liter V6 powerhouse that delivered 235 horsepower. The 2.4 liter 4-cylinde engine sent horsepower to the front wheel via a 4-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.7 liter V6 was more refined than the noisy 4-cylinder. The 3.5 liter V6 was available with front or all wheel drive.

The 4-cylinder Avenger SE features power windows, mirrors, door locks, AM/FM/CD stereo with auxiliary audio jack, AC and cruise control. The Avenger SXT features 17-inch alloy wheels, and anti-lock brakes. The Avenger R/T featured 18-inch wheels, 4-wheel disc bakes, a sport tuned suspension system, 6 disc CD/DVD changer and automatic climate control. The R/T came standard with traction and stability control.

Basically a 5-passenger sedan, the 2008 Dodge Avenger is one of the many sport themed midsize sedans in the market today. The Avenger will replace the outdated and aging Stratus sedan and along with the redesigned Sebring will use a shared DaimlerChrysler/Mitsubishi Motors platform called the GS. The GS platform will be stretched in size and known as the JS.
