Heinkel, a German aircraft manufacturer, like others, was not allowed to build airplanes after World War II. So Ernest Heinkel launched a motorized scooter and in 1952 produced a three-wheel bubble car. It had a single front door and was powered by a single-cylinder, 175 cc four-stroke Heinkel engine. In 1957, Heinkel switched from three wheels to four and the engine grew to 198cc.

Heinkel licensed his design to an Irish company but in 1961 a British company, Trojan, bought the rights and built the 200, a three-wheel design to take advantage of British tax laws. Production ended in 1965.
