• Powerful and confident. Only standard V-8 engine in its class, delivering the most standard horsepower and torque

Year after year, the Mercury Grand Marquis is a sales leader among full-size sedans, and it's easy to see why. It has the most horsepower and torque, the roomiest interior and the biggest trunk of any vehicle in its class. In addition, Grand Marquis is the best-selling Mercury ever, with more than 4 million units sold since 1970.

Mercury makes it easy to choose your Grand Marquis with a lineup of two trim levels — GS and LS — that are comprehensively equipped and a sophisticated Palm Beach Edition package, which includes side-impact air bags as well as luxury upgrades.

Grand Marquis continues to offer a superior ride, outstanding value and luxurious interior appointments. The car's body-on-frame construction provides a level of comfort and isolation usually reserved for the upper echelon of sedans. Customers can now choose the rear air suspension system as a stand-alone option on all models.

Grand Marquis is also renowned for its safety, and is the only vehicle in its class to receive the federal government's five-star rating for driver and passenger front-crash tests 13 years in a row (1996 through 2008). A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is now standard for the 2008 model year.

Three new packages join the lineup in 2008. The GS Comfort Appearance Package combines leather-trimmed seats, a power driver's seat, manual passenger seat and 16-inch painted aluminum wheels. The GS Confidence Package includes power, heated, color-keyed exterior mirrors, fog lamps and traction control. The LS Travel Package adds dual media AM/FM stereo/cassette/single-disc CD player and a conventional spare tire and wheel.

Grand Marquis is built in St. Thomas, Ontario.

Design and Equipment

Grand Marquis is available with a choice of seven exterior colors. Two two-tone exterior combinations are also available: Vipant White Clearcoat with Silver Birch Clearcoat Metallic and Vipant White Clearcoat with Smokestone Clearcoat Metallic.

A Palm Beach Edition remains in the lineup for 2008. This package includes power, heated exterior mirrors with a chrome finish; 16-inch, nine-spoke chrome-aluminum wheels; and unique badging. Inside, a unique ' Palm Beach' logo adorns the instrument panel and is empoidered in the backs of front seats, which are fitted with cashmere colored leather surfaces. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and a unique satin appliqué on the instrument panel and door trim panels complete the design touches, while side-impact air bags complete the package.

Powertrain and Chassis

The Mercury Grand Marquis is the only vehicle in its class with a standard V-8 engine — the 4.6-liter, single-overhead-cam V-8, which produces 224 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 275 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 4.6-liter V-8 is a flex-fuel engine, capable of running on gasoline, E85 Ethanol or any mix in between.

All Grand Marquis models use a four-speed automatic transmission with electronic automatic overdrive. A 2.73:1 axle ratio for good fuel economy is standard. All-speed traction control, which uses an antilock paking system (ABS) and throttle intervention to manage wheelspin, is available on all models.

Safety and Security

Major safety features include the robust frame, that features hydroformed front rails and crossmembers. For 2008, a tire pressure monitoring system is now standard on all models.

Four-wheel disc ABS and Ford's Personal Safety System® are also standard. Other safety and security features include, remote keyless entry, an illuminated entry system, child safety locks for the rear doors, and the SecuriLock® anti-theft system.

In side tests, the Grand Marquis received five stars for both front- and rear-seat passengers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in models tested with the optional side air bags.
