LEGENDARY SRi BADGE RETURNS TO CORSA RANGE

• New performance version of award-winning Corsa

• Powered by new 150PS turbo 1.6-litre engine or 125PS 1.7 diesel

• Available with three or five doors, on sale in September

Hot on the heels of the Corsa VXR, Vauxhall has revealed that its legendary SRi badge is to return on another performance version of the new Corsa.

2009 Vauxhall CorsaSet to reach showrooms in September as either a three-door or a five-door, the Corsa SRi is designed to appeal to buyers who don't need all the performance of the VXR but still appreciate style and sharp driving dynamics.

Petrol versions are powered by a new detuned 150PS version of the turbocharged engine found in Corsa VXR, taking the SRi from 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 130mph.

The power is kept in check by a specially developed sports chassis, lowered by 18mm at the front and 15mm at the rear and featuring ESP as standard. The power steering also features variable progressive feedback, meaning the weight of the steering adjusts electronically to keep the driver well informed at all times.

For those buyers wanting more economy a diesel will also be offered, using the 1.7-litre CDTi with 125PS. As you'd expect from a car wearing the SRi badge, it offers impressive performance, accelerating from 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds, going on to a top speed of 121 mph and yet achieves an average of 58.9 mpg.

Purposeful looks are provided by a front spoiler, deep body-coloured side sills, 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome sports exhaust pipe and subtle tailgate spoiler. Inside, red-detailed sports seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with red inserts, alloy pedals and red seatbelts further set the performance tone.

Corsa SRi is available to order from 23 June, prices will be announced later this month and the first cars will arrive at retailers in September.

LOWER CO2RSA OFFERS REAL-WORLD SAVINGS

• Vauxhall cuts Corsa's CO2 - and the tax bill

• Engine revision improves emissions with no loss of performance

• Potentially exempt from proposed 2008 London Congestion Charge

2009 Vauxhall CorsaWhen working to help the environment, it's often the small changes that can make a big difference. That's the theory used by Vauxhall engineers who have managed to optimise the Corsa CDTi's engine to save the planet from hundreds of thousands of tons of C02 emissions - and collective Corsa owners from hundreds of thousands of pounds in tax.

The revised 1.3CDTi 75PS engine, which is on sale now, sees emissions drop from 124g/km to 119g/km. This might seem like a small step, but it has great consequences for owners who will find their car in VED Group B, dropping the cost of an annual tax disc from £115 to £35.
Company car drivers will see further savings too, as from the 2008/09 tax year the Corsa will fall into the new 13 percent company car tax band introduced by the Chancellor for diesel cars emitting less than 120g/km – a drop which could save a 40 percent tax payer £237 a year.

In addition, the new models would also be entitled to a 100 percent discount from the London Congestion Charge if the mayor's proposals for 2008 are approved. This could save drivers who enter the capital daily more than £2,000 every year. In fact, a company car driver using a new Corsa CDTi Life in London every day could recoup the list price of the car in tax and congestion charge savings after little more than four years!

Over the past few months Vauxhall has also introduced new high-efficiency engines to improve the C02 output of the most popular petrol Astra and Vectra models with variable valve timing and TWINPORT technology.

Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall's managing director, explained: 'General Motors is investing heavily in alternative fuel strategies for the medium and long term. Today, we are making reductions in C02 emissions wherever possible on our most popular model lines. This has a dramatic effect when considering the scale of our sales operations and also has an important benefit of saving our customers money. '

The new Corsa CDTi models are on sale now, priced from £9,810 for the Corsa Life 1.3CDTi 3-door.

CORSA BUYERS GET MORE THAN THEY BARGAINED FOR!

- Prices announced for all-new Corsa
- List prices reduced by up to £945*
- Trim levels and equipment details revealed

With its bold, stylish design, fun driving characteristics and premium feel quality, you could be forgiven for thinking that Vauxhall's New Corsa would be more expensive than the outgoing car.

But you'd be wrong. With prices starting at just £7,495, the replacement for Vauxhall's top-selling supermini is better equipped, and considerably cheaper than some of its most obvious rivals.

2009 Vauxhall CorsaAll Corsas come with equipment lists you'd expect to see on cars costing much more money. As well as a quality CD sound system, the entry-level Expression gets twin dual-stage front airbags, a folding ignition key, ABS with Emergency Brake Assist, electrically adjustable door mirrors, body coloured bumpers, central locking, speed-sensitive power steering and smart door-to-door lighting.

Moving up the range, the Life gets welcome lighting, remote central locking and electric front windows, yet in the most popular 1.2 5-dr trim is £945 less expensive than its predecessor, while Club trim adds side and curtain airbags, an MP3 compatible audio system, the DualLoad boot floor, body-coloured door handles and side mouldings and steering wheel audio controls.

SXi variants get heated door mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, sports front seats, a leather-covered steering wheel, sports suspension, fog lights, a visible chrome tailpipe and dark-style lamps, yet in 1.2-litre SXi 3-dr form it's £260 cheaper than the outgoing car. Plush Design models come with automatic lighting control, rain sensing wipers, air-conditioning and chrome-edged dials.

CORSA UNCOVERED!

- First ever pictures of all-new Corsa
- Set to debut at British International Motor Show
- Distinctive face and coupe-like styling
- Newly developed fun-to-drive chassis

It's fresh, it's funky and it's Britain's most important new supermini in years! These are the first official shots of the all-new Vauxhall Corsa, which is set to go on sale later in 2006.

And it's great news for Vauxhall, because not only will the newcomer add further style to the Luton-based maker's dynamic model range, but it will also be making its debut here in Britain, at July's British International Motor Show, to be held at the ExCel Centre in London's Docklands.

2009 Vauxhall CorsaNew Corsa is slightly longer and wider than the current car, while the coupe-like roofline of the three-door gives it a dynamic, sporty stance in keeping with Vauxhall's reputation for stylish design and driving excitement.

Chief designer, Niels Loeb, said: 'This is just what we wanted the coupe-like three-door Corsa to be. Únique both inside and out, giving the owner a lasting feel-good factor. It just cries out to be driven.'

Inside, New Corsa drivers will enjoy a more spacious cabin than in the existing car, with the longer wheelbase and wider track helping deliver greater leg and shoulder room. The funky interior is finished in quality, high-grade materials, including neat touches such as translucent control knobs and switches, which illuminate with the headlamps to make them easier to find when driving in the dark.

The chassis, which was designed and developed by GM's Engineers in Germany, is tuned to deliver top levels of dynamic ability and agility, with a host of active safety features including Enhanced Úndersteer Control (EÚC). New Corsa will also be the first car in its class to have variable progressive sports power steering, which is designed to offer greater levels of feedback on the open road, but lightens up when used in congested urban areas. A lowered sports chassis with 17-inch alloy wheels will be available.

Five engines will be available initially. Petrol choices will be 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4-litres, while there will also be a common-rail diesel using GM's award-winning 1.3-litre CDTi unit, while the flagship oil burner will be an all-new 125PS 1.7-litre CDTi.

New Corsa benefits from the best of GM's global technology, and will be offered with innovations like Halogen Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL), which alters the light beam according to speed and steering input, plus an innovative new infotainment system, which will include MP3 compatibility and Bluetooth phone connectivity. The user-friendly cabin will also feature options designed to allow the driver to have their own personal settings for the climate control and infotainment systems.

Prices and specifications will be announced closer to the official launch, and New Corsa will be available in showrooms from autumn.
