Changes to the 308 rangeDriving pleasure expectations and environmental requirements Almost one year after the launch of the saloon and six months after the arrival of the SW version, Peugeot continues to enhance the 308 range to meet changes in customer expectations in terms of driving pleasure and in terms of environmental requirements.
Accordingly, the 1.6 l THP 110 kW (150 h.p.) engine in the 308 saloon is now coupled to the Group's all-new six-speed mechanical manual gearbox. Built to ambitious specifications in terms of precision, robustness and compactness, the 'MCM' (in-house code name for Mechanical Compact Manual) gearbox provides maximum driving pleasure wîth the 308. This new 308 version also benefits from an improved carbon footprint. In this respect, it is equipped wîth Michelin Energy Saver tyres. These tyres were launched as an exclusive feature on the 308 in 2007 and offer very low rolling resistance. In addition, this 308 model only consumes 7.0 l / 100 km and only emits 165 g/km of CO2 under combined cycle driving conditions.
Staying on the subject of environmental efficiency, the 308 saloon range is now enhanced wîth a third vehicle version that only emits 120 g/km of CO2, wîth even lower fuel consumption of 4.5 l / 100 km under combined cycle driving conditions.
In fact, as the core engine in the 308 saloon range and depending on the equipment level, the 1.6 l HDi FAP 80 kW (110 h.p.) engine is now available wîth two types of mechanical manual gearboxes: the six speed 'MCM' that appeared during the year wîth this engine, or a five speed gearbox of the 'Electronic Control' type. Thanks to this gearbox and its gear ratios specially designed to optimise fuel consumption, the 308 saloon is able to achieve this particularly low emissions rating for a M1 §egmènt salon equipped wîth a particulate filter.
Still on the 308 saloon, the 2.0 l HDi FAP engine matched wîth the six speed manual mechanical gearbox now achieves a CO2 emissions level of 140 g/km wîth the adoption of Michelin Energy Saver tyres. It is also worthwhile noting that the 308 SW 1.6 l HDi FAP 80 kW (110 h.p.), equipped wîth the six speed manual mechanical gearbox and a glass roof now emits only of 130 g/km of CO2 under combined cycle driving conditions (for 4.9 l / 100 km) wîth Michelin Energy Saver tyres. This means that it is eligible for the 200 euros eco-bonus in France. These changes further enhance one of the 308's major strengths, i.e. its broad range of state-of-the-art and high performance power trains that make major contributions to each car's environmental efficiency. This 'eco-efficiency' is still a rare commodity in this vehicle §egmènt and is the result of Peugeot's quest, from the very start of the project, to achieve the highest environmental efficiency for the vehicl by paying utmost attention to aerodynamics and by adopting Michelin low rolling resistance tyres.
Finally, the 308 range now offers the WIP Nav system. This is the very latest and very competitive onboard navigation system wîth a large 7' 16/9 colour display, Europe-wide maps on SD cards and Bluetooth® hands-free telephone equipment.
The 308's styling, its half-height architecture contributing to interior space and onboard comfort, its build quality and also its class leading road holding and safety protection all represent major advantages that have resulted in almost 385 000 units being produced up to the end of October 2008 in all body shape versions.
