1937 Pontiac Deluxe Eight

1937 Pontiac Deluxe Eight 1937 Pontiac Deluxe Eight High bid of $70,000 at 2009 Worldwide Auctioneers : The Houston Classic Auction. (did not sell)
There were 56,945 Pontiac Deluxe Eight Series 28 vehicles produced in 1937. They were available in eight different bodystyles all resting on a 122-inch wheelbase and measuring 198 inches in length. Power was from an L-head straight-eight that produced 100 horsepower. They had styling similar to their Pontiac Series 26 Deluxe Six siblings. They had a longer, one-piece solid body with turret-style top. The radiator grille was narrower compared to the previous year and the hood line was higher. Silver Streak moldings ran down the center of the hood and over the grille in waterfall fashion. The side grilles had chromed horizontal bars grouped into four lower segments and a narrower upper segment that traversed down the sides of the hood. The windshield was wider with a rakish 39-degree slant. They had a nose badge and trunk emblem reading 'Pontiac Eight.' The hood ornament was a flat brave's head that projected above the moldings and doubled as a latch handle.

This Deluxe Eight Convertible Sedan Model 2849 was the recipient of a body-off restoration several years ago. It is finished in black with red pin-striping. The wheels have been properly painted the same color as the body with red pin-striping. There is a right-hand taillight, tailpipe extension, dual exterior rear view mirrors, and front and rear bumper guards. The interior upholstery is finished in full leather. Accessories include a radio, clock, and heater.

In 2009, this Deluxe Eight was offered for sale at the Houston Classic Auction presented by Worldwide Auctioneers and held in Seabrook, Texas. The lot was estimated to sell for $75,000 - $95,000. As bidding came to a close, the high bid had reached $70,000. Sadly, this was not enough to satisfy the reserve and the lot was left unsold.
