1959 Lesovsky Indy Roadster

1959 Lesovsky Indy Roadster 1959 Lesovsky Indy Roadster 1959 Lesovsky Indy Roadster This low-slung roadster had an offset body and a laydown engine. The engine, however, was tilted in the opposite direction from the other laydown roadsters. This allowed the drive shaft to pass to the right of the cockpit and the top of the cylinders, laying to the left side 15 degrees from horizontal. Driver Johnny Thomson sat in a custom-made seat that leaned back 13 degrees. An expert measured Thompson from all directions to determine the perfect position and proper body support to cancel fatigue. Thompson set the fastest time (qualified at 145.908 mph) and captured the pole position. He started first and, after leading 40 of the 200 laps in the race, finished 3rd.

The Lujie Lesovsky Indy Roadster is powered by a lay-down 255 cubic-inch Offenhauser engine offering 450 horsepower at 6000 RPM.

At the 1960 Indy race, it was entered as the Adams Quarter Horse/Racing Associates and driven by Johnny Thomson. It started in the 17th position and finished in fifth. The following year it wore number 10 and was painted black and gold. It started in 17th and driven by Paul Goldsmith to 14th place.

In 1962 it wore race number 27 and was entered by J.H. Rose Truck Line/Bob Phillips and driven by Don Davis. It was painted black and red and started in the 12th position. It finished the race in 4th place.
