1986 Italdesign Incas news, pictures, and information
Founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro, ItalDesign Inca was born on February 13, 1968. The year prior, Giugiaro had begun with Ital Styling. Giugiaro is recognized for combining elegance with practicality, and his legend will live on forever in his innovative designs.
Giugiaro has been given credit for some of the most innovative designs throughout the world. His passion lies in designing the exterior of the vehicle, and being responsible for much of the creative design aspect, while others did the rest of the car manufacturing. Branded as one of the most prolific automotive designers of all time, Giorgetto was born in Garessio, in the province of Cuneo on August 7th 1938. He began working for Fiat before moving to Bertone to become the head of styling. Following several years at Bertone, Giorgetto next went to Ghia and was responsible for styling the Maserati Ghibli and Fiat Dino.
A disagreement with the owner of De Tomaso influenced Giugiaro to create Italdesign in 1968. Unlike Ghia and Pininfarina, the Italdesign Incas name was chosen to emphasis that it was a styling company first, and involved in manufacturing and coach-building on behalf of other automakers.
Giugiaro was obsessed with styling cars, but not so much about cars themselves. He began working as an engineer, beginning with a model before even creating renderings.
Today ItalDesign is separated into 30 separate divisions. These include a manufacturing consultancy that can create absolutely everything from experimental machining to sub-assembly engineering. More than 750 employees were employed at ItalDesign. 200 CAS-CAD-CAE and CAM workstations were at the plant, and have the capability of manufacturing one body per week that was complete with trim and chassis. A staff of 30 employees is employed at a new California branch of ItalDesign that has recently opened.
The 1986 Oldsmobile Italdesign Incas concept featured a quad turbo inline-4 engine, and featured a displacement ratio of 2260 cc and 137.9 cubic inches. 175.2 inches in length, the Incas are 72.8 inches in width and 49.2 inches high. Featuring 4wd driven wheels, the '86 Incas had a 113.2 inch wheelbase. The Italdesign Incas was capable of 230.0 bhp at 500 rpm with 101.77 bhp per liter.Jessica Donaldson
