2010 Nissan GT-R Enters Second Year With Five Additional Horsepower, Revised Suspension, New Wheel Colors

2010 Nissan GT-R
The fifth-generation Nissan GT-R supercar, which made its North American debut in July 2008, returns less than a year later with an enhanced 2010 model featuring a number of small yet important updates – including five additional horsepower, a revised suspension, revised wheel finishes and standard front seat-mounted and roof-mounted curtain sideimpact supplemental air bags. The 2010 GT-R will be available through nearly 700 official 'GT-R certified' Nissan dealers across the Únited States beginning in March 2009.2010 Nissan GT-R
'After years of anticipation, the arrival of the famed Nissan GT-R in the Únited States couldn't have been more exciting or rewarding,' said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. 'Not only did GT-R virtually rewrite the sports car performance records, it showed that you don't have to spend mega dollars for mega performance – or mega fun. The GT-R also won near universal acclaim in its rookie year, including being named Motor Trend ‘2009 Car of the Year,' Automobile magazine's 2009 ‘Automobile of the Year' and winning Kelly Blue Book's ‘2009 Best Resale Value Award.''

2010 Nissan GT-R
For 2010, the horsepower rating of the GT-R's 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine has been increased to 485 hp (from 480 hp) and the car's high-performance 6-speed dual-clutch transmission receives new Transmission Control Module (TCM) programming designed to optimize clutch engagement for improved drivability and improve vehicle acceleration with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) on (activated).

2010 Nissan GT-RIn addition, the braking system has been updated with more rigid brake lines for improved durability and the brake calipers now carry both the Brembo and Nissan logos. The GT-R's already advanced suspension has been retuned with redesigned Bilstein® shocks with a new valve body design, along with revised spring and damper rates.

The base GT-R model is now equipped with slightly darker high-luster smoke finish (versus the 2009 model) for the standard 20-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels, while a new near-black metallic wheel finish is standard on the Premium model. For 2010, a new Pearl White color is offered and the Super Silver exterior color has been enhanced and now includes a polished front bumper.

Supercar Packaging and Driveline
The Nissan GT-R is a multi-dimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of 'the ultimate supercar that can be driven by anyone, anytime, anywhere.' It is built on an exclusive Premium Midship platform created expressly for use with the GT-R. The Premium Midship platform enables the use of a world's first independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system, which optimizes weight distribution and handling capability. This layout places the transmission, transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle, without the use of traditional torque tubes, allowing the suspension to operate independently and optimizing tire grip at each corner.

Únder the hood, the Nissan GT-R features an advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 producing 485 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 434 lb-ft of torque at 3,200, while meeting ultra-low emission vehicle (ÚLEV) standards. ( posted on conceptcarz.com) The engine features innovative plasmasprayed bores replacing cast iron liners for reduced friction, lighter weight, enhanced cooling, power output and fuel efficiency; a symmetrical independent intake and exhaust manifold system featuring twin high-performance IHI turbochargers; a secondary air management system for improved cold-start emissions performance; a thermostatically controlled oilcooling system; an oil scavenger pump to maintain oil flowing to the turbochargers; and a lateral wet and dry sump oiling system. All GT-R engines are hand-assembled in a clean room environment at the Nissan Yokohama engine plant.

The VR38DETT is backed by an advanced paddle-shifted sequential 6-speed dual clutch
transmission, which can be driver selected to shift at race car-like speeds. The sequentialshifting transaxle features separate wet clutches for the odd (1,3,5) and even (2,4,6) gears and pre-selects the next highest and next lowest gear for immediate shifts. It also features Hill Start Assist for easy starts on uphill inclines.

Contributing to overall vehicle balance and low center of gravity, the unique offset input and reaction shaft design of the rear transaxle enables a shorter design profile versus a typical manual transmission, moving the concentration of powertrain weight lower in the vehicle.

Putting the power to the ground is an electronically controlled ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system specifically developed for GT-R. The rear drive-biased system can vary torque split from 0:100 to 50:50 depending on speed, lateral acceleration, steering angles, tire slip, road surface and yaw rate. Of note is a special GT-R-specific yaw-rate feedback control, which measures the differences between the target yaw rate calculated from steering angle and actual yaw rate detected by the yaw-rate sensor and G sensor to adjust torque bias.

2010 Nissan GT-RFor 2010, clutch-engagement control has been optimized through new programming of the vehicle's Transmission Control Module (TCM). This modification improves vehicle
acceleration with the VDC on/activated while maintaining the GT-R's smooth shifting, handling, maneuvering and award winning driving performance.

GT-R's handling duties are managed by a sophisticated 4-wheel independent suspension system mounted to high-precision six-point front and rear subframes. A special Bilstein DampTronic driver adjustable shock absorber system, with a new valve body design for 2010, utilizes multiple vehicle information systems to provide appropriate damping forces and high level of control for a variety of driving situations. The DampTronic system features three driver selectable settings - Normal; Comfort, for maximum suspension compliance; or 'R,' for ultimate handling. The same three-stage adjustability is available for the VDC
system and transmission shift operation, which also includes a Snow mode.

Stopping power is provided by Brembo monoblock six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers with large 15-inch Brembo full-floating cross-drilled two-piece rotors and low-steel high-stiffness brake pads that minimize fade and provide intense stopping performance.

The calipers utilize race car-style radial mounting to minimize caliper flex during extreme braking. New, more rigid brake lines are utilized for 2010 for enhanced durability. GT-R-specific lightweight forged 20-inch wheels, with special knurling to assist with securing the tires during hard acceleration or braking, are shod with nitrogen-filled Bridgestone or Dunlop high-performance summer run-flat tires specifically designed for the GT-R, sized 255/40ZRF20 front and 285/35ZRF20 rear.

High-performance Dunlop all-season tires are also available. The base GT-R model is
equipped with a slightly darker high-luster smoke wheel finish (versus the 2009 GT-R), while a new near-black metallic wheel finish is now standard on the GT-R Premium model.

GT-R's Signature Functional Design – High Performance Aerodynamics and Style
The Nissan GT-R's dramatic styling remains unchanged for 2010, again following the
'function over form' theory. Every styling aspect, from the overall design to the smallest details, is created to maximize the vehicle's driving experience – as well as suggest GT-R's 'supercar' level of performance. Útilizing advanced aerodynamics, GT-R's aggressive styling evokes the lines of a well-trained athlete, combining strong character lines with smooth and solid areas.

The GT-R's hybrid body construction is created with a combination of steel, carbon fiber and die-cast aluminum, providing a unique combination of stiffness, precision and lightness. The body features a low coefficient of drag of 0.27 while achieving high front and rear downforce, providing stability and handling performance in a wide range of driving conditions.

GT-R's front fenders express power and stability, while the 'aero-blades' on the fenders' leading edges provide optimum airflow around the tires and along the body. The vents in the fenders' trailing edges assists in providing front downforce and optimizing side air flow.

The aggressive front end, with a large hood bulge and single central air intake, provides a sophisticated style as well as undisturbed airflow for power and cooling. The 'super wide beam' headlights feature three additional sub-reflectors (compared to conventional lights) to give a wide illumination spread. The Nissan GT-R's four-passenger cabin features a sloping 'aero blade canopy' roofline and
curved C-pillar 'sword edge,' which expresses the distinctive GT-R identity, as well as facilitating air flow around the rear of the vehicle. The signature rear view of the GT-R is provided by its hallmark four-ring taillights, while air flow above and below the vehicle is managed by the functional rear carbon fiber underbody diffuser, rear spoiler and large, integrated quad exhaust tips.

GT-R's advanced technology is present even in the vehicle's paint, which utilizes a durable anti-chip paint and 'double clear coat' process. One new color, Pearl White, is offered for 2010, while the special seven-coat Super Silver paint color treatment includes a new polished front bumper. The Super Silver paint is baked five times and is hand-polished by craftsman.

An Interior Suitable for Daily Driving or Supercar Duties
Key to the Nissan GT-R's usability as both a daily driver and a high-performance machine is its interior, which is designed to balance functionality and comfort. It provides comfortable four-passenger seating and trunk capacity of two golf bags or suitcases.

Sculpted performance bucket seats give the driver and passenger a comfortable driving experience, and soft pads are utilized on the dash in front of the passenger and both doors to give an extra level of comfort. The rear transaxle layout of GT-R, with a flat floor and narrow center tunnel, allows GT-R to have an optimal driving position.

A cockpit-style instrument panel surrounds the driver, with all meters and multi-function meter at a uniform height to minimize the driver's head movement. A large centermounted tachometer, with gear display on its upper right, as well as the easy-to-read graphics of the display, gives the driver instant detailed information, essential for the performance nature of the GT-R.

Functional style is also evident in GT-R's interior – each meter features a dial plate design that evokes the idea of engaged gears, as well as a three-dimensional metal-like ring, suggesting the multi-dimensional performance of GT-R. A large, metallic-framed center console features an ergonomically designed shift lever and a red 'engine start' button.

The centerpiece of the instrument panel is a video game-inspired multi-function display. Eleven pages of information are available on this system, including mechanical and driving information, acceleration, brake pedal pressure, steering angle and a recording function with playback. Additional on-screen information includes a Navigation system, enhanced entertainment system with a Music Box Hard Drive and a Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System.

GT-R Premium models include a specially designed 11-speaker Bose® audio system
features two forward-facing woofers in the rear center armrest area. Rigid aluminum die cast panel-mounting of all speakers allowed Bose® engineers to perfect the acoustical performance of the GT-R sound system.

The Nissan GT-R offers a long list of safety features, including, for enhanced visibility inside and out of the vehicle, high-mounted LED stoplights, bright LED rear combination taillights, 'super wide beam' headlights, heated door mirrors and flat-blade windshield wipers.

Standard safety equipment includes a Nissan Advanced Air Bag System for driver and front passenger, front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags for driver and frontpassenger and standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags for front seat occupant head protection – along with front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters and tension reducers, and three-point ELR/ALR rear seat belts.

GT-R Dealer Certification
The Nissan GT-R is sold and serviced through nearly 7000 Nissan dealers that have attained 'GT-R Certification' status by meeting a number of strict sales, service and facilities commitments – including dedicating a master technician to GT-R service, special training for service managers and technicians, and designating dealer principals, executive managers and general managers as the primary communicators and negotiators in sales transactions.

VICTORY FOR NISSAN GT-R AT SILVERSTONE ROUND OF THE FIA GT

Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes took the first ever FIA GT1 race victory for the Nissan GT-R at Silverstone raceway this weekend. In an astounding turn of events the two Sumo Power drivers now find themselves the proud winners of the RAC Tourist Trophy which is historically awarded to the winners of the Silverstone round after taking third place on the track.

The two cars that finished ahead of the Nissan GT-Rs on the track were penalized after the checkered flag fell. The winning Aston Martin of Darren Turner and Tomas Enge was excluded for a technical infringement and the second placed Aston Martin of Fred Makowiecki and Thomas Accary received a time penalty for taking too long to come in for a drive-through penalty.

This result means that Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes' names will be forever listed alongside names such as Stirling Moss, Tazio Nuvolari and Graham Hill on the Tourist Trophy.

2010 Nissan GT-RHughes got a great start to the race, moving up to fourth place immediately. Michael Krumm didn't fare so well as he was pushed wide and had to drop back to ninth to avoid an accident. The Swiss Racing Nissan GT-Rs also lost out at the start with Seiji Ara running in 14th and Karl Wendlinger in 19th. At the end of lap two the Safety Car came out while a stricken and burning Corvette was removed from the side of the track. This held the cars at a steady pace until the start of lap seven when the Safety Car came in and racing resumed.

By lap 10 Hughes was still running strongly in fourth place, Krumm was up to eighth after passing a Corvette and Ara and Wendlinger were also making good progress.

Just before the pit stop window opened, Krumm was locked into a great battle with Andrea Bertolini's Maserati. The pair was having a good fight but then Oliver Gavin's Corvette joined in and three-into-one just wouldn't go. The net result was Krumm and Gavin going off into the gravel at Vale.

'At the start I was pushed wide onto the grass by Bernoldi so I had to lift to avoid an accident,' said Krumm. 'I then couldn't make up any positions as we were behind the safety car for a long time. Once we were racing again I was having a good fight with Bertolini in the Maserati. I knew that Gavin was behind us but I was concentrating on the Maserati. The next thing I knew I was in the gravel. It's a shame as the car is really quick now. Hopefully we can show this at Brno.'

Hughes then dived into the pits to hand over to Jamie Campbell-Walter, who was immediately pitched into battle with a Maserati.

'My stint was pretty exciting,' said Campbell-Walter. 'We pitted quite early so I went out into a load of traffic. I had a great fight with a Maserati; we were swopping places so much it was like a rollercoaster ride. Once I got past him for the last time I set off after Kechele in the Lamborghini. We were well matched over the whole lap and I decided that the only place I would be able to pass him was into Copse, as he kept braking early there. I went for it, I don't think we touched but it was pretty close.'

The Swiss Racing team endured a difficult weekend but salvaged a top ten finish in this afternoon's championship race. Soon after the pit stops Henri Moser went off at the fastest part of the track, resulting in a lot of damage to the No.3 Swiss Racing Nissan GT-R and a trip to the medical centre for Henri.

2010 Nissan GT-R'It's hard to know what happened really,' he §äid. 'I was passing a Lamborghini at the end of the Hangar straight and suddenly I'm spinning off into the tires. It's a shame as the car was perfect. My stint had been tricky up to that point as I was in a lot of traffic. I knew once I was past the Lamborghini I would have a clear track in front of me and would be able to go a lot quicker. It was a clean move so it's disappointing to end up in the barrier.'

'That was a very hard weekend for Swiss Racing Team,' said Technical Director Erich Kolb. 'The race was not too bad for Seiji and Max though. Max joined the race in a lot of traffic, which immediately put him under pressure but he quickly settled into a rhythm and started to put in very good lap times. It was very good to see him take a top ten finish after such a difficult weekend. Henri's accident caused a lot of damage to the car but luckily Henri is okay. All in all it was a tough weekend but we're happy we have started to score points and happy for Sumo for their fantastic result.'

The final word has to go to Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes, the winners of the RAC Tourist Trophy and the men who took the first FIA GT1 win for the Nissan GT-R.

'That's amazing!' said Hughes. We were happy with third and then we were told it might be second so to get the call to say we won is incredible. I was actually giving the trophy envious glances during the press conference, thinking it would be nice to have my name on there, so this is a great result for us. I'm genuinely delighted to have the win as this is a great result for the championship.'

'For a British driver it's a massive honor to win the Tourist Trophy and to be the guys who take the first FIA GT1 win for Nissan is incredible,' said Campbell-Walter. 'I have to express my condolences to Darren and Tomas though as they did a great job today and it can't be nice to have this taken away from you as a driver. When I won the FIA GT race in 2000 here at Silverstone I was presented with the Tourist Trophy but my name was never engraved on it as it wasn't an official Tourist Trophy meeting. I feel like I've won it for a second time now but this time my name will go on there so that's great. This is a fantastic result for Nissan and for the Sumo Power team.'
