THE LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 UTILITY WAGON – A NEW 5-SEAT COMMERCIAL VEHICLE

From today, all Defender 110 Station Wagons featuring the Útility Pack will gain a classification change from M1 passenger carrying to N1 Light Commercial Vehicle. With a payload capability in excess of 1,000kg, the Defender 110 Útility Wagon also meets requirements to be classified as a light goods vehicle for VAT purposes should the usage be commercial.

The Útility Pack, which is a no cost option available on all three trim levels – base, County and XS – replaces the rear side windows of the standard station wagon wîth panelled sides, providing a secure load space area whilst still maintaining seating for five people.

Customers purchasing a Defender 110 Útility Wagon for commercial requirements can benefit from VAT reclaim, Benefit in Kind tax capped at £3000 for light commercial vehicles and an LCV rate of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) – £185 from May 1, 2009.

John Edwards, ÚK managing director, Land Rover said: ?The change in classification for the Defender 110 Útility wagon provides our business customers wîth a more flexible and cost-effective alternative to other double cabs. The Útility pack ensures a more secure load space whilst not affecting the vehicle's ability to transport five people comfortably – making it an ideal workhorse.?

Prices for the Útility Wagon will start from £23,970.00 OTR (£20,874.78 exc. 15% VAT but including VED and £55 registration fee).

LAND ROVER REVEALS 60th ANNIVERSARY DEFENDER SPECIAL EDITION AT THE BRITISH RED CROSS BALL

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 21 November 2007 – Land Rover will celebrate its 60th anniversary wîth a new special edition of the iconic Defender – the SVX.

The Land Rover Defender SVX was unveiled for the first time by Zara Phillips at the British Red Cross Ball in London earlier this evening. The world's first SVX has been donated by Land Rover ÚK to the British Red Cross to auction at the ball.

'The Red Cross association wîth Land Rover goes back to 1954, when Land Rover supplied a vehicle to the British Red Cross for use in Dubai as a mobile dispensary,' said James Johnstone, chairman for the British Red Cross Ball. 'We are thrilled that Land Rover continues to support our vital humanitarian work today. Funds raised from auctioning this vehicle will go towards the work of the Red Cross in the ÚK and overseas, which this year has included the ÚK floods, Darfur Crisis and ongoing HIV work in Africa.'

While most of the 25,000 Defenders produced each year are working tools for everyone from farmers and foresters to aid agencies, the SVX is the most stylish and feature-packed version that Land Rover has ever produced.

Special Edition Features

Vital Stats
Engine : 2.4 L., 4-cylinder
Power: 121 hp
Torque: 265 ft-lbs

6-speed Manual
With metallic black paintwork and subtle satin black graphic decals, the Defender SVX will be available in both 90 soft-top and 90 station wagon versions. Distinctive exterior features have a contrasting silver finish, such as the unique 'Defender' and 'SVX' badges, tubular side-steps, and the bold surround for the front grille and new, clear-lens headlamps. All vehicles will also feature new, ‘diamond turned' five-spoke alloy wheels, a reinforced aluminium front undershield and clear LED rear lights.

To bring the SVX interiors right up to date, they are equipped wîth custom-designed Recaro front seats, distinctive alloy gear knobs, a new audio system (with subwoofer and ÚSB socket), iPod cradle and Garmin satellite navigation. (posted on conceptcarz.com) The soft-top models are especially eye-catching, wîth a metallic silver tubular cage that supports a tailor-made, removable black fabric hood. This encloses a flat load-space and a spare wheel stowed behind the front seats, reminiscent of the very first open-top Land Rovers. Each SVX model for the ÚK will also come fitted wîth an individually numbered plaque, i.e. 001.

'The Defender SVX looks very different to a spartan 1948 Land Rover, but it's still an essentially practical vehicle that will enable you to go almost anywhere,' says Phil Popham, Land Rover's managing director. 'The new and much more refined diesel engine introduced earlier this year has been a great success wîth customers, and for those who want the ultimate Defender, we thought that the SVX special edition would be an ideal way to mark Land Rover's 60th birthday.'

A total of 200 SVX vehicles will be made available in the ÚK- 140 two-seat Defender 90 soft-tops and 60 four-seat 90 station wagons. Production of the Defender SVX will start in Spring 2008, wîth deliveries to customers starting from early summer for soft-tops and later in the summer for station wagons. Prices will be announced later in the year.

THE BEST 4x4 x FAR

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 28 September 2007 – Land Rover has swept the board in 4x4 magazine's 4x4 of the Year awards 2008, winning 3 out of the 8 categories and the overall title of 4x4 of the Year for the new and improved Defender.

The Land Rover Defender 90, the Range Rover and the Discovery 3 fought off tough competition from nearly 60 other models in one of the largest tests of its kind, to win the Extreme Class, Luxury Class and Family Class respectively. The Freelander 2 was also Highly Commended in the Soft-Roader Class.

'We think this is the most credible test of its kind ever undertaken by a 4x4 magazine, and Land Rover's success can't be underestimated in what is now a hugely competitive market sector,' said John Carroll, Editor, 4x4 Magazine.

'All of the Land Rover range fared extremely well against the competitors but the Defender is still the King of the Off-Roaders. Thanks to its all-new 2.4-litre Ford-derived powertrain, plus revamped interior, the traditional British icon has clearly been elevated to another level.'

The all-new Land Rover line-up is also proving to be a hit wîth customers wîth sales up year to date by 13 per cent.

EXPEDITION SPREADS WORD OF CLIMATE CHANGE TO 10,000 ATLANTIC SCHOOL CHILDREN

A team of three Cambridge graduates has today received a Land Rover Defender 110 and a cheque for £10,000, at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in London, to embark on an expedition of approximately 32,000km, through 31 countries, to raise awareness of the potential impacts of climate change along the Atlantic coastline.

‘Atlantic Rising', winners of the 2009 ‘Go Beyond' Bursary, which was awarded by the RGS-IBG and Land Rover earlier this year, will navigate land around the Atlantic Ocean by attempting to follow the 1m contour line which scientists forecast could become the new coastline in 100 years.

Tim Bromfield, Lynn Morris, and Will Lorimer, will follow the 1m contour line around the Atlantic as closely as possible, visiting schools and creating an educational network wîth up to 10,000 students along the route. They will report from some of the remotest coastal regions of the Atlantic Ocean and establish a sea-level change education project that can be used in 1,200 schools throughout the world via the Rafi.ki online schools network.

Tim Bromfield from Atlantic Rising said, 'Education is the most powerful weapon we have to combat climate change. By encouraging students around the Atlantic to work together, we want to highlight our shared responsibility in dealing wîth this critical issue. By encouraging international friendships, we hope to make people care enough to act.'

Dr Rita Gardner, Director of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), said, 'This project, made possible through our partnership wîth Land Rover, focuses on one of the most challenging issues we face – the potential impacts of climate change in coastal regions. As recipients of the Bursary, Atlantic Rising have been granted the opportunity to 'go beyond' their normal limits and boundaries and at the same time support one of the Society's objectives which is to promote the wider understanding and enjoyment of geography.'

This is the second ‘Go Beyond' Bursary run by RGS-IBG on behalf of Land Rover, whose partnership wîth the Society has existed for more than 20 years.

Land Rover holds sustainability at the core of its business activity, including sponsoring conservation partners such as RGS-IBG. Together wîth sister company, Jaguar, Land Rover is investing £800m in sustainable technology which includes the development of hybrid technology and the use of lightweight material. As part of Land Rover's commitment to sustainability, the manufacturing and mileage of the 110 Defender vehicle are being carbon offset through ClimateCare who run Land Rover's CO2 Offset Programme in the ÚK , France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Austria and other international markets.
