1969 Mercury Marauder

The Mercury Marauder X-100 was a blend of muscle car power and big-car luxury, advertised as having 'the prowling instincts of Cougar, the elegance of Continental.' Styling features of the X-100 included hidden headlights, fender skirts, flying buttress roof, tunneled rear window, and styled alloy wheels. The interior was luxurious and roomy with leather and vinyl, rim-blow steering wheel, and an electric clock.

Both the Marauder and the X-100 were two-door hardtop coupes with seating for six. The Marauder had a base price of $3,350 while the X-100 was slightly higher, at $4,075. 9,031 examples of the Marauder were sold and 5,635 of the X-100. Powering the base Marauder was an overhead-valve, 390 cubic-inch V8 with a two-barrel carburetor delivering 265 horsepower at 4,400 RPM. The X-100 used Ford's new 429 cubic-inch V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and 360 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with a C6 SelectShift three-speed automatic.

The 121-inch wheelbase platform was shared with other full-size Ford vehicles including the Mercury Colony Park station wagon. The front of the Marauder was the same at the Marquis, but several distinguish features helped distinguish the two. The Marauder had twin upper body pinstripes, a unique section with five short, horizontal chrome pieces located behind the doors (non-functional louvered air intakes), and a special tunneled rear window treatment. The rear deck panel housed six taillights and two backup lights. The interior was cloth and vinyl.
